The artwork that I studied is produced by Salvador Dali which is called Persistence of Memory made in 1931.

Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was in a Surrealist group in 1929. Salvador Dali’s painting skills were credited to the influence of Renaissance masters, but his piece of Persistence of Memory was influenced by Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights. After this piece was made it was called Persistence of Memory. This piece is not yet known if it is to be about someone or a specific place but it was told to be about a specific theory of Albert Einstein.

The piece shows a series of “soft” clocks or clocks that appear to be melted onto this leafless tree and this supposed deserted place. This piece is supposed to be about Albert Einstein’s theory of special reality. What caught my attention the most as the distorted “soft” clocks that melt or slouch onto whatever surface or tree it was on, making it seem as if time melts away into existence. At the very first glance, you can tell this particular piece is not at all realistic from the distortion of the clocks and the unreal surfaces and background. As seen in the piece in the middle of the ground is a melted clock on a creme fabric. What is seen in the background is a hill that I believe to be a body of water onto the left and a plain flat surface. What is seen in the foreground is two other melted clocks one on a leafless tree and one on the side on a flat surface close to the leafless tree. Most of the things in the picture are out of place and in different places spaced out and most of the things in the piece are all random and don’t go on as a theme.

The main focus of the image is the melted clocks and the random structure in the piece of artwork. This piece of artwork is 24.1 x 33 cm, Salvador uses a series of brown, light blue, light brown, and creme in his piece. In Persistence of Memory, you can see how there are melted objects referring to the melted clock and a supposed to be a fabric that is I think melting onto the ground then you will see random flat surfaces in different places of the art piece. The process of this work was made out of paint, painted onto a piece of paper. I suppose this piece was made with paintbrushes from the way this piece looks it seems that thin brushes to create the small details in the clocks etc. This piece from the name itself gives me a feeling of being thoughtful, thinking about time and how time can go by quickly. In my opinion, this artist is interesting because of how he painted his artwork, how he let his imagination go onto the paper, and ended up being the most famous artist of his time. His artwork inspired me to let my imagination roam free on paper and let it create itself through my hands.
