I want to answer questions such as why people kill other species for cosmetics, food, and clothing. People stubbornly continue to destroy all life on earth for both gastronomic and entertainment purposes and the most important reason for the disappearance of animal species, which scientists call human agricultural activity. I hope to find why people who know this do not rush to protect animals, draw up and sign petitions calling for the closing of circuses and dolphinariums or become vegetarians.

Global

In the world, it is argued that thanks to the ever-increasing impact of intelligence, humanity has come to a new stage in its evolution. The industrial revolution gave man tools to accelerate the exploitation of nature. Fishing fleets, tractors, chain saws, cars, insecticides appeared. But human development has a second side, such as people invented tools, respectively, the amount of prey on the hunt increased, with the relationship it is time for the extermination of animals in connection with the need for food and clothing. In total, over the past 500 years, the destruction of 500 known to science, that is, described, animal species and 600 plant species have been recorded, while the number of extinct undescribed species, according to scientists, is even higher. Worldwide, there are problems with air pollution, deforestation, pollution of the oceans and soil pollution as well as the illegal destruction of animals. Greenpeace, an international environmental organization, holds actions against environmental pollution by industrial waste and protects animals. Influencing public opinion, Greenpeace seeks from industrial companies and governments to make decisions and practical measures on specific ecological problems.

Many scientists believe that the giant animals that inhabited Australia tens of thousands of years ago did not die out due to climatic changes, but because of human faults. Australia’s extinct fauna includes a kangaroo weighing almost half a ton, two-ton wombats, 180-kilogram flightless birds, 136-kilogram marsupial lions, eight-meter lizards and turtles the size of a Volkswagen car. Unfortunately, almost all scientists now believe that this happened and are happening because of the too rapid development of humanity. It should be noted that according to the calculations of specialists made in 2006, for the extermination of the fauna by the Australian, it was not necessary to arrange mass killings. In order to destroy one species in several centuries, it was enough for each hunter to kill one cub of this species once every ten years. In Australia, there are two types of people, some still exterminating the species that are in the Red Book, while others are trying not killing animals. Cats came to Australia several hundred years ago. They managed to settle throughout the continent and destroy more than 20 species of rodents. Now, the Australian authorities have decided to exterminate two million wild cats by feeding them poisoned sausages and killed from bows.

Moscow is the country’s largest metropolis. In addition to the problems associated with overpopulation typical for any capital of the world, the city experiences environmental pollution caused by the developed industry. Today the ecological state of Moscow is unimportant. In recent months, Muscovites drew attention to the decrease in the number of sparrows in the city. Boulevards and squares in Moscow are gradually being covered with artificial lawns, on which few insects live – there are as many of them there as on asphalt. But there are more radical proposals for controlling bird migration: in 2006, at the height of the bird flu epidemic, the Ministry of Emergency Situations proposed shooting birds flying to us from Southeast Asia. Sparrows feed the chicks with insects, so they have nothing to eat. In Moscow, there are more buildings, people, cars, bicycles, as well as dogs and cats which are especially dangerous for birds. Also, listening to scientists who are working in IUBMB, International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, problems become every year more.

Problems

According to government, plastic enters the stomachs of 31 species of marine mammals and 100 species of seabirds. Even crustaceans that live at the very bottom of the Mariana Trench swallow particles of plastic. The stomach is not able to digest bags and packaging. They accumulate in the body and kill the animal. Over the past half-century, the rate of extinction of animals due to human activities has reached the highest level in history. The main reason is plastic: it is found in the stomachs of dead birds, fish and sea animals get entangled in it. Pollution of the oceans due to the leakage of oil and oil products, as well as garbage, has reached enormous proportions, which affects the decline in the populations of many animal species and the whole ecosystem. Environmentalists talk about global climate change, including an increase in average annual temperature, causing glaciers to melt, and an increase in sea level. Sea level rise is a problem not only in tropical regions but also a grave threat to Europe. Oceans have become such an important indicator of global warming that last year’s UN Climate Conference devoted two days to this problem.

Solutions

To drastically improve the environmental situation, people should think about solutions to environmental problems in ways such as the creation of environmental laws, the uniform distribution of transport, to garden large and small settlements, to protect and restore land and forests and to reduce household and industrial waste. To keep animals on the planet, we need to find rare and endangered species, to create Red Books and to conserve the number of species. Some events like IUCN International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources can only be organized by large environmental organizations, others by individual people in each country. But in the conservation of rare endangered species of animals, regional point, local efforts are no less critical than large-scale ones. There is also a WiFi background of support for animals and ecology, which is actively developing in Moscow.

Opinion

I think that such a rapid development of humanity does much harm to other species and ourselves. Also, I could reason that human development is beautiful, unconditional, but when it comes to overly rapid growth, there are many more problems than good, just in my opinion. I hope that those people who read my essay makes up their minds and understand what a huge impact they have on the environmental world. After I received much more information about global problems, my opinion about the fact that the overly rapid development of human being negatively affects other species has not changed.

Conclusion

Only in the 20th century did humankind thoroughly think about the consequences of the destruction of animals. The Red Book was created, where information about rare and endangered species is recorded. Some species are not found in the wild but are still preserved in captivity. Man breeds such animals accustoms them to the wildlife and releases them in suitable habitats. In some areas, reserves and wildlife sanctuaries are being created, where they are trying to preserve the habitat in its original form. In the end, people should think about saving the planet. After all, the problems in the world are not only due to the extinction of animals, but also due to the human industries, we are gradually destroying ourselves.
