Popular culture embodies the beliefs, ideas, perspectives, attitudes, and images of various cultures. We all play part in pop culture. Pop culture has different categories, although some are more popular than others. Pop cultures are trends that are influenced by mass media, music movies, popular figures, politics, fashion sports as well as news. It is the traditions and practices that individuals find interesting and can relate to each other. This article brings out the idea that people have always found popular culture interesting, but their interest has increased through the eras, because of the technology and social media. When reading the article it is evident that pop culture will always be around. Pop culture influences the way we dress, the music we listen too, the restaurants we eat at, the books we read, the movies we watch. For example, when Black Panther was released in 2018 many people resulted in dressing in African attire. Because it was so popular it became a thing, groups of families and friends would go to the cinema dressed in African attire and post pictures on Instagram. Showing just how powerful pop culture is.

I consider pop culture to be anything that brings up conversations amongst strangers that can be used as ‘small talk’. Pop culture does differ from generations but it is not bound to age. You could reliably bring up Beyonce’s Lemonade performance as Staple Center or the new shows on TV such as WAGS or Keeping up with the Kardashians as a Millennial. However, that might not be the case for other generations. Their popular culture can consist of Elvis Presley and the Bettles. Or for the newer generation, Youtube celebrities such as Jack Paul and PewdiePie may spark interest and result in a conversation. Social Media, in my opinion, is a big part of pop culture. Celebrities play a big role in the way pop culture has transformed today because social media has made everything they do so accessible. It is facilitated even more because social media such as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter is a big part of our daily life. We see how celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, who are pop culture icons influence the pop culture around makeup and fashion based daily. Pop culture fashion trends such as fanny packs and popular Nike sneakers were all influenced by A list Holywood celebrities through the media. Therefore our lives can be influenced by various pop culture because of how strong it has become.
