Evidence of God

Imagine yourself taking your morning walk outdoors. As you stop in your steps and admire the unusual beauty in nature, you instantly hear the birds chirping. The mighty wind echoes in your ears and you recognize the various plants around you. The maple tree sends out a whiff of the fresh scent of a forest and you look up at the mighty towering trees that hover over you. Do you wonder if there really is a God who uniquely designed this created earth? At that moment, you consider the depth of your questions. Does God exist? How do I know there is a God who created this? Evidence of God includes his creation, the conscience of human beings, and his revelation of himself in the Bible.

By observing the beauty of the world around us, we can readily realize that God is elegantly portrayed through creation. The complexity of creation is the most compelling evidence of the existence of God. Just observing this beauty of nature showcases a God, illustrating the qualities of his eternal power and the character of who he is. For example, think about the type of crystal of a Fluorite gemstone. What do you see? The crystal itself is such a remarkable design. The crystal itself is filled with many kinds of colors. Just observing the depth of the crystal shows not only God’s character as an artist but also his attention to detail as He designed it. The galaxy is filled with millions of stars, and God’s power is displayed in creating the galaxies. God’s wisdom is very much illustrated by the human body. God’s goodness is illustrated in nature. God cares for nature, for instance by providing all things the animals need to live. God’s beauty is exhibited by the vast variation exhibited in the geological formation. We see intelligent design all around us. The evidence demands a designer who created the universe. In the book, Answers in Genesis, Ken Ham (2012) addresses the fact that the “…moon is slowly spiraling away from earth. If the earth-moon system were really 4 billion years old, the moon would have been touching earth less than 1.5 billion years ago. But just 6,000 years ago, the moon would have been 800 feet closer to earth, which makes much more sense“ (p.24). Evolution requires an old universe, one that is billions of years old. Evidence, however, demands a much younger universe that supports the creation model. Our galaxy is so much bigger than you can imagine. The size of our galaxy, being 12,000 light-years across, and its complexity made up of millions of stars, could not be the result of random chance. It rather illustrated in a magnificent way the power and creativity of our God. For instance, the galaxy “is about 12,000 light-years across”, and “The stars used for constellations (like Orion, Bear, and the Pleiades) are found within our own galaxy” (Answers in Genesis). An adult human body has over 100,000 miles of blood vessels that nourish trillions of cells. We illustrate such a complex creation that much of its physiology is still unknown. The Bible states in Romans that by creation alone we know there is a God and through it we can understand his power and his divine nature. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).

God has given man a conscience of right and wrong in our hearts. Man can and does know God because man is made in the image of God. God has placed limits on the deceitfulness of the human heart. “For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things contained in the law, these, although, not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them” (Romans 2:14,15). This verse tells us that God has placed the knowledge of himself within the heart of every human being. Every human being knows the difference between right and wrong. We know that everyone will be held responsible for the choices they have made. Our conscience is also corrupted. The Bible says our conscience is very weak. “It is not everyone, however, who has this knowledge. Since some have become so accustomed to idols until now, they still think of the food they eat as food offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled” (1 Corinthians 8:7). Some people try to seek other gods and worship things that are not right to God. Paul says, “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal men and birds and animals and reptiles” (Romans 1:21-23). For the unbelievers who aren’t saved, their conscience will continue to be corrupted. Their conscience will also not lead them to the truth of our maker. That is why we need our conscience to be cleansed from sin. “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death” (Hebrews 9:14).

The Bible is God’s ultimate truth. The Bible is inspired by different writers in the New Testament and The Old Testament. God has given two ways of revealing himself through special and general revelation. A Christians’ view on what revelation means is how God has communicated to us. General revelation refers to general truths that are known about God through nature. Through general revelation, God communicates his existence, his power, and His glory. General revelation does not reveal Jesus Christ or the work for redeeming sinners. Instead, special revelation refers to specific truths of knowing God in a supernatural way. Special revelation is the way to salvation (Practical Christian Living Workbook). “You will find over and over again that the Bible is confirmed by observational science“ (Answers in Genesis). We have found numerous archeological findings. “The Archaeological Study Bible is filled with notes and articles documenting the many ways archeology has proven that the Bible is true to historic reality” (Answers in Genesis). The Bible is also consistent and compatible. “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” (Romans 9:20).

There is no evidence regarding the existence of God answered by an atheist. If you were to argue on the basis of creation. Steinhart states that “The set which includes every actual and possible universe is a complex and therefore contingent thing. (It would not be true to say that every possible universe is a complex and therefore contingent thing because there is a possible universe that contains only one thing. Since such a universe would not be the only universe, however, there is still complexity which requires an explanation” (How to prove the existence of God)

Since man is intelligent, men can choose what is right and wrong for them. Some people do not believe that God exists. Non-believers, they think that everything from the big bang can be explained naturally. For instance, the law of nature says the cause has an effect. The big bag should have a cause and effect. But, no one has been able to prove the big bang theory with evidence of a cause. So, what is the cause? God is the cause. The cause and effect of the universe has such a smooth order.

Since the Bible was written many years ago, the Bible does not matter for us today. Many atheists would agree that the Bible is outdated and does not relate to our time. Atheists believe that the Bible isn’t helpful in our modern era. But, in reality, the Bible is one of the top global influences in our world today. The Bible has a global influence on the laws, arts, ethics, and literature than any other book in history.

It is undeniable that there is a God who created the universe. The designer has the attributes of creativity, artistic abilities and is all-powerful. We know there is God who created us and everything around us. Just seeing the beauty of different kinds of plants, animals and stars, puts you in awe of the beauty that is captured. God created 500 different kinds of bananas just because he wanted to. He didn’t do it because he had to. He did it for us, in order to show his glory and power and to show humanity that there is a God that exists. Not only has God shown Himself through creation, but also in the conscience of man. God has placed a conscience in each one of our minds to be able to tell between right and wrong. God could have made us all into robots without any intelligence or having the free will to do what we want. Instead, God created us and gave us conscience of right and wrong. He gave us free will to do what is right and wrong. God also gave us his word. The Word of God is alive today. His word is the gateway to heaven. The Bible is God’s word and the hope of the promised king to come. The Bible for unbelievers is the means of finding hope and encouragement in hard times. The Bible is full of scriptures that show God’s attributes and describe events and history. Truly I say to you, there is a God, and he is obvious in our world today.
