What is global warming? According to dictionary.com, global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, and other pollutants. Global warming is caused by natural events and humans that are believed to be a contributor to the increase in temperature. There are many steps that we as humans can take to help with global warming. This is a very important topic because we all need to help the environment and not make it worse than it already it is. Us human beings are not as innocent as we think we are when it comes to talking about global warming. I will be talking about the steps we can take, the causes and effects of global warming.

There are many causes as to why global warming takes place. The most common issue is deforestation because people keep cutting down trees and instead we need to be planting more trees. There is deforestation because people cut down the trees to expand land for industrialization and globalization for housing and population expansion. If it keeps continuing carbon dioxide will concentrate in the atmosphere and we don’t want that because then future generations will have to avoid saddling with a choice of extreme climate change or spending hundreds of dollars to avoid it. (Ian) Another issue is industrial revolution as they use fossil fuels for power machines. A lot of people may not know or even think about this but everything we use is involved with fossil fuels somehow. When we buy something like a phone, in order to make that phone they are involved with machines which is using fossil fuels to power that machine and during the process carbon dioxide is releasing into the atmosphere. The last issue I can think of is methane which is considered a greenhouse gas. It can be released from many areas like cattle, petroleum, the landfill and many more things. It is more effective than carbon dioxide because it can trap heat in the atmosphere much faster. (The Greenhouse)

The effects that global warming will cause on earth is extremely serious and there are many effects that will happen in the future if global warming continues. Some of those effects are more hurricanes and earthquakes, diseases are spread even more than they already are, warmer waters, and polar ice caps melting. Due to climate change as the temperature starts to increase then the ice at the North Pole will start to melt and then once it melts, the sea levels rise because the melting glaciers then turns into oceans.(Melting) There is also loss of species because they lose their habitat because they aren’t like us humans who can adjust to temperature change to keep living. Hurricanes will occur a lot more which leads to damage and the government has to spend tons of money and people have to find new places to stay. Once a disaster like this happens then diseases start to spread faster causing more and more people to have it and the disease could become very serious because of the different weather that is happening.

There are many steps us humans can all be taking to stop global warming. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about a step we can take is recycling. We can reduce garbage by reusing bottles, paper, glass, and plastic bags. Even when we go grocery shopping for food we can take our own bags and reuse them and even our own containers. Just think when you’re drinking your bottle of water next that you can reuse that bottle again and refill it instead of throwing it away. By doing this you can be saving a bunch of money and helping our environment. The second thing we can do is reduce the amount of gasoline we use because everyone uses a lot of gas in a week to travel even if it is just to work. Not everyone has the option of driving a more fuel-efficient car because they seem to be more expensive than other vehicles. So instead you could reduce gasoline usage by taking public transport or carpool with someone to work. Also it would be even more efficient to ride bikes because you would be saving even more energy. There are smaller steps than these ones that we can take like change regular light bulbs to fluorescent light bulbs, make sure when you leave the house you don’t leave anything running and windmills to help with power. What I listed above are just some things we can do to help but there is so much more than this that you can do.

In conclusion, you can see that there are many effects, causes, and steps we can take of global warming. With everyone working together we can help try to make global warming better than what it is now and the environment we live in. There might be more important things in the world than global warming but it is important enough that we can take these steps and help out even if it just improved a little that would be wonderful. Global warming is very important to me as I always am trying to recycle stuff and I hope it is very important to everyone else also. If we really want to help out it would be best if we tried not to be so reliable on ourselves just hopping in our cars and start walking places, riding bikes, horses, even like the Amish do ride in buggies to get us to where we need to go.
