Hinduism has always intrigued me, ever since I learned about Hinduism in High School, I found the philosophy of reincarnation fascinating, the idea that good deeds will allow you to have a second in life. Hinduism is one of the world’s largest religion and oldest religions, with customs dating back more than 4,000 years ago.

Today Hinduism has a large following of 900 million followers, roughly 95% of the worlds Hindus live in India, Hinduism is a unique religion due to the fact that there is no founder, it developed out of Brahmanism. Brahmanism is the foundation of Hinduism, it helped shaped the religion it is today and was known as Pre-Hinduism. It is considered an early form of Hinduism. Around 1500 B.C., the Indus Aryan people migrated to the Indus valley, and. Their language and culture blended with that of the indigenous people living in the region, but to this day Hindus say their religion is timeless and that there is no founder. Hinduism is in fact one of the worlds unique religion. It’s made up of tradition and customs that help the people in India negative their life because Hinduism is a way of life for many Hindus. Hindus believe in the teachings of Samsara, Samsara is the state of continuous cycle of life, death, and reincarnation, karma is the universal law of cause and effect. The main goal of Hinduism is “Atman” or belief of the soul. This philosophy states that all living creatures have a soul and connected to the supreme soul. Some examples of Hindu beliefs include, most forms of Hinduism are Henotheistic, meaning they worship one deity known as Brahman, but still recognize other gods and goddesses. Many followers believe there are endless roads that lead to their god. Another belief states people’s actions and thoughts directly determine their current life and future lives this is how karma and dharma come into play. Furthermore, they strive to achieve dharma which is a code of living that empathizes god conduct and morality.

Hindus also believe cows are scared, and that they should never eat beef or pork. Many Hindus are vegetarian. Hindus value many sacred writings as opposed to one holy book. The primary sacred texts, known as the Vedas, were composed around 1500 B.C. This collection of verses and hymns was written in Sanskrit and contains revelations received by ancient saints and sages. The Vedas are made up of: The Rig Veda, The Samaveda, The Yajurveda, and The Atharvaveda. Hindus worship many gods and goddesses in addition to Brahman, who is believed to be the supreme God force present in all things. Some of the most prominent deities include: Brahma: the god responsible for the creation of the world and all living things, Vishnu: the god that preserves and protects the universe, Shiva: the god that destroys the universe in order to recreate it, Devi: the goddess that fights to restore dharma, Krishna: the god of compassion, tenderness and love, Lakshmi: the goddess of wealth and purity, and Saraswathi: the goddess of learning
