The population that I have chosen to do research was for the race, in particular, I choose to select the African American race. This population has been up and down with their strengths and values. Within the African American community, human rights have been an ongoing battle. Many people of the African American Community have suffered from the strengthening of their culture “African-American children and families are strong when they feel themselves part of something much larger than themselves”. In this day and age, many people still carry over the same attributions even after at least 20 years of battle. There has been evidence that African American families can be seeing having strong beliefs. “African Americans, he strongly maintained, were to be distinguished if at’ all by color and/or caste: colored, Negro, Black, or poor but not African” (2020).

There have been researched stereotypes that have not only been something that many people hold a grudge towards this person or this race. One of the recent stereotypes are African Americans being “people being shot by police officers, usually, White officers seem like a near-daily occurrence” (‘Stereotypical Biases in Black People toward Black People | SPSP’, 2020). This has no became a situation where now African Americans don’t want to be around cops or all feel as if they are bad people. Daily reports have been made that African Americans are being terrorized and constantly threaten by officers. When you look at the situations the police officer is here to make sure that the world is a safe place and because of the typical stereotypes some people don’t even want to reach out to law enforcement just got the so simple fact they don’t have to deal with them. “police violence against African Americans has been a relatively salient feature of nationwide discussions about race” (‘How Black Lives Matter Changed the Way Americans Fight for Freedom’, 2020). The understandable protests that occur after such events often focus on the racial prejudice that White police officers seem to hold toward Black people.

African Americans have formed a bond and like to make sure that they support each other they like to say Black Lives Matter (‘How Black Lives Matter Changed the Way Americans Fight for Freedom’, 2020). This has been a movement such as the ones that were in the civil rights era. Where everyone comes together to show support or love. Due to the African Americans facing what it is to be racial acts. Most of the people that have been apart of the movement have related this to being a human rights movement versus it being a civil rights movement. The goal is to change specific laws that fighting for a fundamental reordering of society wherein Black lives are free from systematic dehumanization. This movement is formed up of groups such as Black Youth Project 100, the Dream Defenders, Assata’s Daughters, the St. Louis Action Council, Millennial Activists United, and the Organization for Black Struggle.

During my values, I haven’t had the issue with police or law enforcement. I have always been treated with respect and I have never experienced any racial discrimination. I have had my share of situations with others than my race and still give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are telling the truth, and have no intentions to do the wrong thing. I make sure that I have always tell people to make your judgment off of your encounters with this person versus it being something that was based on what someone else encounters. “The term “implicit bias” refers to attitudes, stereotypes, or associations that we are not aware of but which can influence our judgments and actions” (‘How Black Lives Matter Changed the Way Americans Fight for Freedom’, 2020).

As a practitioner, you have to be unbiased when you have clients. You are not sure who you may have come in contact with but you need to remain unbiased. You want to hear the client’s story and remember that this is not your story or what you have dealt with in your past. The job consists of being a support to the client, assist with being able to stand up for their justice but not to engage the client to make him believe that others are badly based on your own experiences. A social worker wants to support client self-determination, manage personal values by not influencing the client with an explanation of what I would do in a situation they were experiencing. Offer by options with possible results of each option to assist the client in making the best decision for themselves.

One form of oppression came from the culture of when African Americans were treated so poorly (‘Oppression Among African Americans – Psyched for Social Justice’, 2020). They had a lack of privilege, things from them were inequal and they lived this way every day of their life. If everyone lived life in oppression the way African Americans did life would be so much more appreciated. Not only has oppression impacted experiences and daily life moments, but it also a concept within community psychology that has transformed my understanding of injustice and its impact on African American communities (‘Oppression Among African Americans – Psyched for Social Justice’, 2020). One form of discrimination is when African Americans were having interactions with police. There have been many altercations where African Americans have seen been discriminated against or pulled overdue looking suspicious. “Half or more of African Americans say they have personally been discriminated against because they are Black when interacting with police (50%)” (‘Oppression Among African Americans – Psyched for Social Justice’, 2020). An example of someone receiving discrimination micro is noting being selected for housing because of the color of their skin. Some cases have been racially profiled when it comes down to section 8 cases many people of color felt as if they have waited many years due to the color of their skin. An example of mezzo level of discrimination would be a group of African American students trying to get accepted into college (‘NPR Choice page’, 2020). Due to the color of their skin, they were not able to get into college. I have spoken with many people of the nursing programs of their college and they have to select so many people of each race into their program to keep the school in good standards. The macro-level of discrimination would Black Lives Matter campaign this shows a large crowd of people who can show that they are looking for support in their community. Marching and chanting for their community within a large group.

Social justice can be anything from voting privileges, immigration to criminal justice. As a social worker, the optimal goal is to make sure that the goals are equal between those who are involved. You will discuss a analyze the information that is given to process and enhance the well being of humans. The evidence-based practice that can be used will be used and personalized to each person’s culture and interests. Evidence-based practice will be used in conjunction with well-researched interventions with clinical experience, ethics, client preferences, and culture to guide and inform the delivery of treatments and services. An example of a social worker using evidence practice for social justice would be formulating a client and having a community policy directed question.

Economic justice is someone who experiences moral principles and uses economic as a guide (Justice, 2020). This will focus will the way that the economy is living. The goal is to determine how everyone is exchanging goods for their living, to economic status. Slowing down the economy when others are not working the economy tends to slow down and stunt on economic growth. A social worker can work hard to give resources to clients to help empower and promote economic growth.

Environmental justice is finding fair treatment and meaning involvement in others. I believe that regardless of color, sex, and income everyone should be treated equally. As a social worker, you will use environmental justice to make sure you provide services to anyone. It won’t matter the color of their skin or their sexual preference (Justice, 2020). For the community, you want to make sure that all resources are available to everyone. You want to know that you are not holding out on information to promote environmental growth.
