Importance of Education: Opinion Essay

The value of education was instilled in me from as long as I can remember. I grew up in an environment where the importance of education and hard work was fostered at a young age and that education is the main variable in life that would determine your future. A factor that simply, cannot be taken for granted. In marketing mix terms, education was our main ‘P’, that the higher you’ve reached in your education, the easier it will be to navigate through opportunities. As the higher step you have achieved in your education, the more desirable you would be professionally, serving both a need and a want. Therefore, getting my degree was always factored into the overall marketing mix of my life and its significance was never questioned.

With my parents serving as my main inspiration in life, I devoted my efforts and dedication to receiving academic accomplishments most notably my 4-Year academic scholarship to BA Hons in Business Studies in Dublin Business School. As a token of my gratitude and appreciation to the college, I worked tirelessly and with enthusiasm to give back to an opportunity that changed my life. During my time in DBS, I received multiple awards including I received Student Marketing /Promotional Campaign of the Year, Contribution to Student Life in 2016, taking role as the Vice President of the largest and most prestige society – Business Society and being awarded Society and Event of the Year in 2018. Finally, I graduated with a First-Class honours and received ‘Graduate of the Year’ for the Undergraduate Business Stream. I wasn’t coming to college to mark another day off my calendar, I came in to learn and better myself.

Looking back on my years learning, I realize how big of an impact education has made on my personal and professional growth and I am not finished on my journey of learning just yet. I now have an opportunity to become the first person in my family to attend a master’s degree and with the financial assistance that this scholarship can provide, I will have the chance to achieve a personal long-term goal and a dream for my parents without putting financial burden on them.

If selected for this, I will continue to apply the same diligence and dedication to my studies as I have to this point, making education as one of my priorities.
