Introduction

Every leader is a world changer who goes beyond the limitation without fears and inspire people to challenge themselves in order to achieve their dreams. A great leader is charismatic and spreads positivity around people. They possess leadership skills and abilities to motivate, lead and guide masses to follow and achieve their goals in life by instilling hope and confidence. This essay articulates the roles and situations, and the leadership behaviours that might be required in two specific scenarios namely CEO of a multinational company and sports coach. The first situation relates to transformational leadership style whereas the situation of a sports coach will circle around the autocratic leadership approach.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the head of a company and is primarily accountable for a business overall firm performance and monetary situation of a business. The role of a top functioning official in companies is usually lengthy and broad from decision making to operation of effective plans and strategies for meeting the standards and achieving success (Smale,2019). The main role undertaken by a CEO is to set the vision, mission and in accordance implement plans and strategies for the effective direction and operation of the policies to ensure smooth and steady business growth while maintaining the core principles and standards of the company. Being acknowledged as the public face of the company, the CEO remains accountable to the Board of Directors (BOD, periodically reports the performance and the ongoing stock value of the business and look up to them for further assistance to carry out further proposals (Smale,2019). Moreover, CEO are also obliged to provide information and reports to external investors who are interested in the business through publishing quarterly and annual audit reports. According to Smale (2019), in order to grow and flourish the business consistently, building strong relationships and connecting to the outer world is a must, which is the key responsibility of a CEO where CEO plays a vital role and extensively allies with potential investors, exposes the opportunities and strengths of the corporation, communicate and handle challenges while exchange valuable ideas and vision for the well-being and prosperity of the company (Smale,2019). Taking up the position of a CEO is demanding and hectic in a sense as they are in charge of the entire business keeping in record the resources required along with the strategies to achieve it and unprecedented downturns company faces, whist a CEO requires to be grounded and maintain a firm and positive corporate ambience within the firm (Boggs,2006). With the responsibilities come the challenges where the CEO tactfully deals with the shortcomings and casualties in business. They exhibit their leadership approach and CEO are likely to adopt transformational leadership style where the leaders inspire followers to achieve end goals through empowering their self-worth, constantly motivating which has resulted in higher morale, work commitment and efficient productivity. Employees are responsible for the success and growth of a business and employee satisfaction and motivation largely contributes towards the steady growth of any business. However, many leaders around the world have taken followers as a means to achieve their desires and goals without catering to their norms which distinguishes transformational leadership style from other leadership styles as transformational leaders aid to bring positive change in employee by stirring their potentialities and fuelling a drive to attain the shared vision as the employees have faith and respect in the leader and remain loyal and true to the leader. John F. Kennedy quoted “Ask not what your country can do for you- ask what you can do for your country” simply provides the evidence and philosophy which transformational leaders follow. Transformational leaders possess a charismatic attitude full of positivity and injects confidence, optimism and enthusiasm among the followers where followers or employees focus on the attainment of their vision and set goals (Hatfield,2017). This leadership approach acquits individual mentorship to boost their personal development and includes them in participative decision making where their views and opinions are valued (Hatfield,2017). Transformational leaders create clear vision for their future and ties their long-term company goals with employees’ value, therefore these leaders are able to incite the interest to achieve the set vision through collective effort without employee dissatisfaction. Having stated the traits of a transformational leader, the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, is one great leader who applied transformational leadership style in his workplace which favoured the online business to reach heights of success over the last two decades (Chermack, 2015). The positive impact of this style could be clearly witnessed from the breakthrough of giant retail hero, Amazon which is the result of Bezos’s unstoppable dream, employee driven and focussed business approach and the continuous support and upliftment provided to the employees behind the grand success of this incredible organization. Anil keshary Shah, CEO of Nabil Bank Limited, another important transformational leader of Nepal who have motivated and inspired thousands of Nepalese youths to step above and believe in their strengths and capabilities. His leadership approach has always impacted the youth is large as he believes in change for the betterment and principle of team effort. Anil Keshary Shah states “I prepare a strategy on the best formula to get the task completed by maximizing the resources I have and the strengths of the members of the team” (Kumar, 2020). Being the CEO of a commercial bank, he has achieved the great height of success within two decades and he always add that the only ingredient behind his success is happiness and contentment in the work they perform. There are misconceptions in the transformational and charismatic leadership approach where it is noted that a leader can be charismatic but not transformational.

A Sports Coach

A sports coach is a mentor who guides players actively involved in sports adventures by providing them the skills and tactics to play a match. An undertaking sport mentor is somebody who endeavours to decidedly impact the activity and conduct of members. Mentoring is not easy and especially the role of a sports coach is weighted with different activities from shaping athletes to motivating them. Sports training creates individuals through improving their exhibition (Szabo,2012).
