Natural Disaster: The Hazard Of Blizzards In Winter

A natural disaster is a natural event that can cause disadvantage to all living things. There are many types of natural disasters in the world, in different places and time. For example flood, volcanic eruption, tsunami, and others. Natural disasters can cause death to humans and animals, sickness, economic loss, damage to the buildings, and many other types of disadvantages.

One of the natural disasters is blizzard. Blizzard is a severe snowstorm that caused by cold air, moisture and a warm rising air. It was formed by the warm air that rises over the cold air. They are brought together, a front is formed and rainfall happens. Usually, blizzard happens in subtropical and cold climate when it’s winter (December-February).

Blizzard can be hazardous because it could shut down a city for a couple of days, electrical wires often go down because of the heavy wind and snow, trees, plant and crops can die in a blizzard and also, it will lower the economy. Not only has it affected the environment, but also people that are in it. When people got caught in the blizzard, they will most probably get hypothermia and frostbite. Some people died because of blizzard, due to extreme cold weather that caused by blizzard. Blizzard can affect animals too. They can die in the cold and it’s hard for them to find their way home. It is hard to survive during a blizzard because of the cold weather and the whiteout caused by the blizzard. But there are a few advices to survive this natural disaster. Stay hydrated to avoid hypothermia by having a bottle of water that can withstand extreme cold. Be sure to keep your temperature as high as possible by keeping the blood flow by moving around. Some people think that eating snow will reduce hypothermia, but eating snow can reduce body temperature which has high risk of getting hypothermia. Try to build a snow cave if there’s no help on the way because it prevents direct exposure
