In “The Truman Show” Truman is unaware. An example of this is, in the movie a pair of twins are repeatedly forcing him against an advertisement board. The twins are potential customers for the insurance company Truman works for. This shows Truman is oblivious to the advertising around him. He never questions why they force him against an advertisement board. Truman does not even realize anything odd is happening. Another example of Truman being naive is when Truman is trying to go somewhere they do not want him to go there are random people in the way. This is happening because the director, Kristof, does not want him to do something or talk to someone. Truman is ignorant of the people trying to get in his way. This happens multiple times yet Truman never examines it. Unknowingly, Truman merely waits or tries to go around these blockades. Truman is unaware of the odd events happening around him.

In the middle of the movie, Truman changes from unaware to curious. An example of this is when Truman discovers a pattern in traffic. This happens because everyone but Truman is an actor, because of this they maintain a routine they follow. Truman calls this the Loop. Truman only discovers this because he is questioning the world around him. This questioning shows a change because before he wouldn’t have even thought to inquire why. Now Truman is investigating the odd things around him. Another example is when a cop the Truman does not know says his name. Truman wonders how the cop knows his name. This happened because Truman tried to run away and was caught by a couple of cops. This shows a change in Truman because before he would never have examined how the cop knew his name. Truman is now wondering if the world revolves around him. Truman now believes something is going on. Truman has changed from who he was at the beginning of the movie, now he is curious about the odd things around him.

Towards the end of the movie, Truman becomes courageous and less frightened of challenging authority. An example of this is, Truman digging a hole from his basement to his yard. Truman achieves this so he can escape the place that has become a prison for him. This proves Truman is determined to escape because most people would not dig a hole out of their house. Formerly Truman would scarcely have questioned it. He would not have had the courage to act on it. He changes because he no longer trusts the people around him. A quote from Truman that shows he is courageous is, “Is that the best you can do! You are going to have to kill me!” Truman said this after he had realized that someone is playing god with his life. He is on a boat sailing through what he believes is the ocean. At the beginning of the movie, Truman would not have even gotten on the boat. He has conquered his fears of the ocean. Truman has decided he has had enough of his life being controlled. No longer is Truman frightened of the world around him, now he is courageous enough to confront the world.

Throughout the movie, Truman changes from naive, to overly suspicious to brave. Truman changes so he is capable to face the challenges life presents him with. Throughout their lives, people change based on the challenges they face and the people they meet.
