Have you ever seen a picture? Do you happen to know in which category of photography it falls in? Photography is such a complex and fascinating form of art and it has taken so many different forms since the first photograph that was taken in 1826 by a Frenchman named Nicéphore Nièpce”, and that was the beginning of the early photographic experience. (The Birth of Photography).

Portrait Photography

A portrait, by definition, usually only depicts somebody’s shoulders, face, and arms in the expression of an oil painting, acrylic painting, digital photography, film photography, engraving and/or drawing. Portrait photography grew when “Louis Daguerre in 1836 when he introduced it to the French Academy of Sciences,” and is one of the most classical inventions unfortunately not everyone can say they have ever gotten their picture by someone professional because some photography packages are expensive or they might not have the technology or the idea, indulged in is more classical. Portraits started with being only made for royalty in big paintings and it was the only way to capture this person for them to be forever still in the position they wanted with the clothes they wanted and it usually took them either weeks or months it all depended on the size of the canvas how much the person moves and how detailed they want it.

Nowadays anyone can have a digital portrait, it is as easy as opening your smartphone camera and positioning yourself in the right place to find some good lighting or just forget about right photography call them out and take the shot but, for them to be professional you might need a plain background, professional lighting, and a professional camera; and some professionals photographers still shot with a camera who has a roll that you then have to develop so they can not have the luxury of being able to take unlimited pictures like now they could with a digital camera with a 128 GB SD-Card but taking pictures with roll gives it a better quality because is the rawest state you can get in a photograph this artist Platon Antoniou has taken photographs from Putin to people who have been raped in Africa, but he makes this connection to the world and his style is simple he has most of them sit in a white background and makes them look straight into the camera but this takes the anticipation of making human connection he might get them to laugh or ask them how they feel and he is ready to get that little human spark in their eyes that captivates the whole world and has made him one of the most famous photographers in the world. The next style is a little more complicated in the sense of anticipating actions.

Sports Photography

What does anticipating action mean? Well, when you decide to buy a camera, so you can take pictures of your child who is in Flag football, first of all, you need to be able to anticipate what will happen when you take pictures for example which way are the kids running to or what play is it defense or offense? More importantly how fast does your camera need to be? Some professionals have their shutter speed is in the high 1/1250, 1/2000 which means that in every single two thousand of a second the camera will take a shot. So if a teenager is running towards a player and you want to catch that motion you would have to put your camera with a setting of 1/640 and if it’s in the night you will need your ISO (which is the ones that control the light how much light goes in between the 1/640 of the second), now this is can or can not be an exact science it is all trial and error and figuring out what works for you and how you want your pictures to look, if you want to see motion you can keep it a with a slower shutter speed and you can see the motion in your picture because it might get some blurry lines or a completely blurred image, or one with the wrong person in focus.

One of the famous sports photographers is “Neil Leifer” he specializes in capturing moments off history with a camera and setting expectations for so many starting teenagers who help with the school yearbook and run around the football field with the same passion and energy that the players have in the game and feel all the emotions as the players but they are there to capture the good and bad moments of it all from the first touchdown to the last inning in the Softball area championship. Sports photography has impacted many lives there is the Muhammad Ali picture where he is standing over his rival in the match which was taken by the previously mentioned photographer Neil Leifer; photography can and has opened people’s eyes to the world which brings us to landscaping photography.

Landscape Photography

Landscape by definition is a “photograph that shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes”(Samuel Burns), taking landscape photography takes patience to get a shot that will make people go “Wow, I did not know that place existed I want to go there” even though they might arrive in the wrong season and the snow from the picture might look gray or even brownish. The birth of making a landscape photograph by Henry Fox Tabolt an English scientist in 1835 he was dedicated to revolutionizing photography, one of the most famous landscape photographers in the world was Ansel Adams he started to learn about photography in his family vacations and he has traveled the whole world and open people minds about the world but mostly he captured the essence of the Yosemite National Parks he wanted to indulge the respect of wildlife for everyone and that is one of the main reasons that new photographers join the landscape field mainly to travel the world, open people’s eyes mainly to promote saving the environment and to convince people to save the nature or conserve it.

What do you need to open people’s minds to the world? Well, taking landscape photography can be as simple as finding some nice green areas like trees, palm trees or just some open grass and taking the shot but for professional photographers, it might take them days or weeks to wait for the right lighting they want or the clouds to be in the exact position to captivate people by living them in wonder of how can something be so perfect, untouched by man and them being able to see it right there in front of them, is like reading but, as we know, not many people can read so they say books can take you as deep into the ocean you want or as far into space you want to explore and that is what landscape photography does without the words and just wonder. These are just some of the many many forms that photography can take shape off.

Conclusion

As we have seen photography will continue to grow and transform and reinvent themselves and the world, this form of art has become more popular throughout the years in the way that you can see your photos faster than having to wait for the roll to get developed or it might get underexposed, or overexposed or their worst fear the roll to get stolen, but with modern technology the same day you take the pictures you can have them safely uploaded in google photos or any other online device, and the cameras have gotten better in the equipment.
