The environment comprises all the physical, social and cultural factors and conditions influencing the existence or the development of an organism. Nowadays, life is facing a threat due to contamination of the environment. Man has steadily improved the technologies and other means necessary for higher production of wealth and for the availability of devices that could give more physical and mental pleasures but for achieving this he has tempered with nature making it hostile for human survival.

Man has exploited nature for his benefits, without any foresight as to what the implications of his actions would be. Before this era of modern civilization, a man respected nature. As there was no use of fertilizers, nature was not tampered with and practices like the rotation of crops were done which allowed the soil to replenish itself with necessary nutrients and regenerate itself. But modern man has choked the soil with fertilizers, insecticides, and pesticides. Thus, the soil is getting polluted day by day by hazardous materials and micro-organisms which enter the food chain. As a result, there are numerous health problems. Those bacteria which are transmitted from air to soil infect man causing cholera and paratyphoid fever.

Moving further, humanity can also go extinct due to scarcity of drinking water. For instance, in India, all the sources of potable water like a river, lake, wells have been polluted badly and declared unfit for drinking. The national capital, Delhi, has so much pollution that when one of the major rivers the Yamuna enters Delhi it is clean, but when it leaves Delhi it is entirely black. The river Ganga is also severely polluted with ash, soap and whatnot. Waste from industries, sewage, garbage and liquid waste from factories and homes, wastage from chemical factories containing toxic and poisonous chemicals all these are major causes of water pollution.

Air pollution is the one direct implication of industrialization. Smoke from chimneys, fumes of the vehicular traffic cause air pollution which breeds many respiration ailments such as asthma. Human activities have led to many dreadful situations such as the recent amazon fire, which killed 40% of trees and increased the level of carbon footprint in air. This situation not only affected the humans but also many innocent animals lost their lives. The spread of radioactive materials into the air has increased due to artificial radioactivity and techniques of harnessing nuclear energy which causes cancer, abnormal birth etcetera.

All of the abovementioned scenarios indicate the seriousness of the problem of pollution. We cannot disparate the pollution problems from questions of economic growth, social awareness and politics. It can be agreed that the problem is complex and every human must realize this as soon as possible and react accordingly. The “I DON’T CARE” attitude would not work for a long period and would start bothering flora, fauna and especially humans. If we start following all rules and stop aggravating nature, the results would be more fruitful than the present case scenario.
