Pollutions

Multiple tests over the past decade have told us that the world is heating, and it is heating up quickly. Over the past century we have seen less, and less cold days and the number of warmer days has increased, and there are many causes for this.

For now, I will be talking about main types of pollution that contribute to global warming. These include water pollution, land pollution and air pollution.

Water pollution

First, let us talk about water pollution and how much of an impact it is. Water pollution is a result of plastic and other non-biodegradable objects that flood the ocean, therefore causing the sea levels to rise. When places that are near the coast become flooded, hundreds if not thousands of people can die or lose their homes. How would you feel if someone you knew died in a flood because of other people who live on the other side of the world decided that they would throw plastic on the floor instead of putting it in the bin or the recycling bin?

Other causes for water pollution are factory waste. Factory waste is when a factory is no longer using materials such as coal and plastic etc… and then it is left near or in a river. The effect this will cause on sea creatures is big because rivers flow down to the ocean and that is where all the sea creatures live. This will kill a lot of sea creatures because they could get trapped in materials or eat materials such as plastic. Factory waste is illegal and what factories are doing is wrong and should be shut down.

Land pollution

The next thing I want to talk about is land pollution. Land pollution is caused by many factors. One important cause of land pollution is landfills and the dumping of waste. Things that are commonly dumped that have contributed to global warming are plastic bags, plastic straws, cans, bottles, wipes, cotton buds, food packaging, cigarettes and many more. These things are all non-biodegradable and cause harm to the environment.

Land pollution is also caused by soil pollution. For example, dumping toxic and poisonous chemicals on sites. Air pollution that has settled on top of the soil is also a cause of soil pollution. What many people do not realise is that housing developments and infrastructure mean an increase of damage on the surface of the soil. However, there are more serious problems that arise from soil pollution. Plants not being able to grow affects us badly because plants take in the carbon dioxide that we produce. If it does not take this for us, there would not be any clean air for us to breathe which means we would not be healthy. This means it is a health risk to humans and can cause illnesses. An example of the unhealthy side of soil pollution is children who play near, around or in the soil. Some people say that children playing in these areas can sometimes absorb the toxins from the soil through their skin. Unsafe drinking water can also be caused by soil pollution because some toxic and poisonous chemicals can reach water source below the soil which nearby area use for drinking water.

This leads me on to talk about deforestation. The tropical rainforests are targeted for deforestation more than others because there are more trees to cut down. The removal of these trees and other plants cause wildlife habitats to become non-existent as there is no food source. It also leaves the soil without any roots or plants and can cause erosion. The rainforest is known for heavy rain but without a strong soiled ground the forest floor can be easily destroyed and washed away. There are also no nutrients on top of the soil to allow new plants and trees to grow.

Air pollution

Lastly, I want to discuss air pollution. Air pollution is a mixture of gases and air particles that reach dangerous and harmful levels inside and outside. Air pollution is a reason for higher temperatures. Examples of air pollutants are green house gases, fossil fuels, smoke, carbon dioxide and mold. All of these cause poor air quality which links to higher chances of developing diseases such as cancer, heart disease, strokes and respiratory diseases like asthma. When air pollutants relate to climate change it is normally because greenhouse gases increase the temperature and cause heatwaves and extreme weather which disrupts food production and health.

How can we prevent further damage from pollution?

There are many ways that we can decrease the amount of pollution that is on earth. Recycling materials such as plastic, paper, metal, glass and compost can help the environment to stay clean. If you use environmentally safe materials and products whenever possible, this could also lead to less of a contribution to global warming.
