“No Child Left Behind” is a joke. Most of the urban and rural students, primarily from families below the poverty level, are not getting even a rudimentary education. In fact, according to a recent study released by the America’s Promised Alliance (an organization chaired by Colin and Alma Powell), the U.S. has a 30 percent rate of students failing to graduate high school. But the really upsetting data is that in urban settings typically 50 to 70 percent of the students fail to graduate. This is more than an embarrassment. This epidemic of students’ failure has widespread occurrence in almost all the countries of the world although the reasons for their failure vary. Students are responsible for their low grades because they lack interest in studies although some teachers also pressurize students but mostly students are addicted to excessive use of social media and illicit drug use, which is why they distract from studies nowadays.

Therefore students are responsible for their failure because they lack interest, they get into relationships and waste their time and because they are ignorant. Lack of interest and passion for success is very much the problem of students nowadays which is because of the fact that they indulge themselves into stuff which is of no benefit to them lets say for instance students nowadays favor partying and hanging out at times when they are supposed to be studying because they love living in a fools paradise and they believe that a magical sword would instantly swing and solve all their problems. The biggest problem with the young generation is that they get into relationships at the very early stages of their lives and devote most of their valuable time to it. They do not realize the fact that their sole priority should be study, which will secure their future and the fact that their entire future depends on it. Most of the relations turn out to be headaches for them, which leads to causing severe anxiety and insomnia, which reflects negatively in their academic results. According to a research in a sample of 283 University students, less time since the breakup and no new relationship contributed to 16% of the variance on perceived academic performance. Variables that were related to academic performance in previous studies including depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, controlling intrusive thoughts and sleep disturbances did not enter the regression equation. These results suggest that a breakup affects students’ perceived academic performance including their concentration, homework and test scores. Ignorance is the major problem with the young generation. They are very much aware of the circumstances of following the right and the wrong path yet they still always choose the wrong path just because they are ignorant. Students are very egoistic nowadays no matter how much a teacher guides them with their words of wisdom they always turn a deaf hear to their advices and they always have an inflated opinion about themselves.

However teachers are supposed to guide their students and care about them whereas some teachers pressurize their students by burdening them with excessive workload, by marking them unfairly and by holding grudges with them. In this modern era of creativity some teachers still impose their old school style of teaching on their students and burden them with excessive work which they hardly manage to coop up with let alone learning. Due to this reason students develop a certain hatred for the studies and they don’t indulge themselves into creative stuff learning something new which is why they fail to get their concepts clear. According to a study by Stanford University, 56 per cent of students considered homework a primary source of stress. Too much homework can result in lack of sleep, headaches, exhaustion and weight loss. Unfair marking by teachers is one of the major reason due to which the true potential of a student is not revealed at times. Teachers mark students only if they write answers that are strictly in accordance with the context of the book and don’t encourage conceptual studying which gives rise to cramming and rat racing. Many students are not very good at memorizing stuff but they excel at developing concepts of the subject being taught, which is why students fail to score high in their academics. Some teachers hold personal grudges with the students, which is why students become egoistic towards them in return and perceive them as their enemies. A teacher should be polite in his or her approach but some teachers treat their students very rudely which gives rise to rage in students and they develop hatred for the teachers and end up scoring low in their academics because of it.

But many students fail to score high in their academics because they are addicted to social media, illicit drug use and due to inability to prepare adequately. The use of social media and gadgets is one of the prime reasons of students failure to score high nowadays With access to the internet 24/7, involvement in social media websites and a world of video games at their disposal, finding the time to actively study is very hard. Students fail because they are unable to focus on their studies and are distracted by these worldly activities. The young generation is specifically menaced by the use of illicit drugs nowadays. Smoking is considered as fashion and an element to show off in students nowadays which further leads them to take drugs. According to a research The United States represents 5% of the world’s population and 75% of prescription drugs taken. 60% of teens who abuse prescription drugs get them free from friends and relatives. Adderall use (often prescribed to treat ADHD) has increased among high school seniors from 5.4% in 2009 to 7.5% this year. Another reason for students’ failure is inability to prepare adequately. The lazy and laid back attitude of students keep them away from making efforts for learning and understanding the various concepts that they might be tested upon. They are too lazy to work themselves and expect others to do their assignments and tests for them. Having a procrastinating approach towards studies often leads to less preparation of study material.

Thus students’ lack of focus is their biggest hurdle in their path to achieve success because of their carelessness and negative attitude yet some teachers play a vital role in their failure to succeed.
