Life after Death –

Life after death has a different meaning to different worldviews. Some imagine death to be a place where we repent for all our sins and either live with Him or in purgatory for all of eternity. Others have denied this concept, believing death to be part of a cycle of reincarnation. The afterlife can differ depending on the person’s religious philosophy and the theme of life after death has been questioned many times.

The Christian worldview of the afterlife depends on your faith in the Resurrection of God. We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgement. However, Jesus loved us and took away all sin. He took away the punishment we all deserve and even died for it. “I am the Resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” The bible tells us we go to either heaven or hell depending on our faith in our saviour. If you believe, you live in heaven for all of eternity with Him. Those who don’t believe will go to hell and live in purgatory for eternity.

“Death does not have the last word over human destiny: God does. Death does not separate us from God.” To believe in judgement is to accept the reality of Heaven and Hell.

Another worldview has viewed the question of life after death differently and their beliefs are based on ‘samsara’, also known as reincarnation. The word comes from ancient India and is defined as ‘the cycle of death and rebirth to which life in the material world is bound’. The never-ending cycle of rebirth is considered to be both unsatisfactory and painful but carries on until you reach a state known as ‘nirvana’, the opposite of ‘samsara’. The state of profound peace of mind, released from the cycle of eternal ‘suffering’. To achieve nirvana puts an end to all suffering and misery.

What is the meaning of life?

The definition of life can be viewed differently. Some treat life as a way of praising God and others for their own happiness. To successfully purse happiness is to love, gain fame or power. Some believe there is more meaning to life and choose to worship God.

The Christian view of living means to purse and follow God. As said in the bible “Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made. He to proclaim and glorify Himself created the existence of humankind. To praise and accomplish his will. “When we trust the one who has made us, who works all things after the counsel of his will, then we are able to live a life of purpose.”

Christianity believes the purpose of humankind revolves an entity called God. The existence of God is simply unknown philosophy that we choose to believe and even if he was our creator, for what purpose did he create us? Whether or not he exists and whether or not our lives have any meaning at all we strive to make our own desires come true.

Those who deny and don’t know of God’s existence, choose to live for themselves. They follow their own desires and determine whether something is right or wrong independently. They adapt to their own kind of moralism and live without knowing what their ultimate purpose is. Without knowing what truly is good, how can they truly have a good purpose in their lives?

Why are we here?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. The fundamental question of human life has been answered by a variety of views and beliefs. Where did we come from and why are we here? For some, we were ‘accidently’ born and evolved by pure chance and for others a God deliberately created us. Whatever the reason, we exist, whether that’s due to chance or purpose.

As said in the previous entry, those without faith tend to live misleading lives with no absolute purpose. Their actions have no morality and they have no one to follow. Those with a relationship with God have a purpose for living and realise our origin. Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The word of the bible tells us to fill the earth, ruling over the living creatures he made, to glorify God and acknowledge Him as our Saviour and Creator. God has a specific plan and purpose for each person and even gives us the right to choose whether we want to follow that path. The more we love and give glory to God, the more we understand our existence.
