We live in a society that is full of horrific things everywhere we turn. In order to not come in contact with these things, we have to live apart from the media and almost separate ourselves from society altogether. These horrible things are often called sins. Sins are actions that are felt to be highly reprehensible and are also viewed as going against God’s will.

Many actions can be viewed as sins, but there are seven sins that are particularly important. These seven sins are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. Pride is one of the worst sins on this list because it is said to have an adverse effect on every virtue because even though the seven virtues counter each of the seven sins, pride is the sin that is able to affect them all in a way that others cannot. Pride is a person’s overwhelming sense that they are superior to others and have no conscience about it. Pride is high satisfaction with one’s own self and a feeling of superiority which can lead to an arrogant attitude. These people often take without thought or care about others or the consequences of their actions. A person that is full of pride needs nothing from anyone and is a self-contained, self-sufficient person and often breeds a snobbish persona.

“Envy is a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another ‘s advantages, success, possessions, etc” (Dictionary. Com). People feel envious of others wealth, looks, and jobs. Pride is what causes envy, as human beings, people do not like it when others are better. Some people say that envy is a sickness, but some people say that is a motivation to be better. You are envious of what others have but what you do not. The emotion when people are envious tends to be more hysterical because they do not have the ability to own what others have. When people are envious of someone their attitude will be toward anger. Envy is a feeling that has been around society for a long time; therefore, it has been discussed by religions and psychologists throughout history.

Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food. Greed goes with all the seven deadly sins in some way or form. Like, greed is the gluttony of stuff, greed is the lust for stuff, greed is a sloth that becomes a thoughtless consumer, greed is the pride of having stuff, greed is the envy of those who have stuff, and greed is the wrath that believes we have the right to possess stuff.Greed will throw a tantrum as you’ve never seen. But eventually, it will give way to the practice of un-greed, or generosity. Enjoy tithing. God loves a cheerful giver. Lust is a very strong sexual desire. With lust, we dehumanize other people. We desire to use them. We seek to meet our own physical and emotional desires without regard for others. We place our desires before another’s personhood and worth. Gluttony, or “excess of food,” led to a curse of utter destruction upon Sodom, the standard example of God’s wrath and judgment (Ezekiel 16:49).

The consequences of gluttony it’s an expression of rebellion against God and man that destroys life. To overcome gluttony is about having self-control of when and what you want to eat in the bible it states ‘Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.’ (Isaiah 55:1-2) Wrath is uncontrolled feelings of anger, rage, and even hatred. Sloth is described as the avoidance of physical and spiritual work, or being lazy and idle about God’s teachings. The cure for sloth is the exact opposite: effort. The sin can be defeated with combined planning and practice. Find a specific speaking style that suits you and practice delivering it.
