Sex tourism! What is Sex tourism? The first thing which comes to our mind is the red-light areas and destinations like Amsterdam and Thailand. According to The World Tourism Organization, A specialized agency of the United Nations defines sex tourism as ‘trips organized from within the tourism sector, or from outside this sector but using its structures and networks, with the primary purpose of effecting a commercial sexual relationship by the tourist with residents at the destination’ (Marina Diotallevi, ed. October 1995). According to Burns (2014), Thailand, Kenya, The Philippines, Cambodia, Brazil, Spain, Indonesia, The Netherlands, and the Dominican Republic are some of the most popular countries visited for sex tourism. Sex tourism also has a large impact on the country’s economy. Most sectors will benefit economically from sex tourism. It will increase the number of tourists coming in which will bring revenue in the country. It helps in growing tourism in a country which will create more employment for the people. More jobs mean lesser poverty. Lesser poverty means a good and stable economy (Ramirez et al, 2013). This also includes sex workers. Most Sex workers indulge in sex tourism because of poverty. They just want to earn a live hood from the industry. There is a various reason why tourist get attracted to this kind of tourism. In many countries’ prostitution is not allowed and that’s the reason people visit countries where it’s legal. But this kind of tourism also gives birth to several social evils which are harming society. In this writing piece, I would like to draw everyone’s attention to the most concerning problem of Human trafficking, Child abuse and health issues related to sex tourism. In my opinion sex tourism should be discouraged, just because it helps in growing the industry we can not exploit the people involved in it.

To run this industry Humans act as fuel and with the basic rule of demand and supply when demand increases the supply also needs to increase to meet the demands which give birth to “Human trafficking”. A definition of sex trafficking includes: “the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purposes of a commercial sex act” (US Department of State, 2012). The most recent figures of modern slavery (International Labor Organization, 2017) identify that during 2016, 40.3 million people were victims of modern slavery. Of these, 24.9 million were forced into labor such as construction, agriculture, factories and, of interest to this paper, the sex industry. Human trafficking is illegal in international law still it’s the fact that it is happening worldwide.

The next most concerning and sensitive issue is child sex slavery. The United Nations defines child-sex tourism as ‘tourism organized with the primary purpose of facilitating the effecting of a commercial-sexual relationship with a child. Youngsters are more defenseless and effectively controlled, there are countless children forced in the sex industry. CST (Child Sex Tourism) is a disgraceful ambush on the innocence of kids and a type of cruel youngster misuse. Youngsters enter prostitution due to immaturity, lack of security and confidence, homelessness, joblessness, or misuse and disregard. (Eva J. Klain, JD,1999). As far as a good and moral obligation, the tourism industry has a social duty to check the deal. The United Nations (2012) has stressed the need for the tourism and hospitality industry to help with putting a stop to sex trafficking. In response to this, “The industry has developed a Tourism Child-Protection code of conduct for dealing with the sexual trafficking of children (ECPAT, 2017)”. By 2013, there were 1,287 signatories with 140,096 prepared staff in 52 nations (Mohn, 2012), and by 2017, this had developed to 303 individuals, 401,625 prepared staff in 206 nations (The Code, 2017). Even though there are quantifies set up to control and reduce the business, it will take tremendous measures to totally end child sex abuse in sex tourism.

The next major threat is the Diseases Spread by these Sexual activities. Sex tourism had increased the risk of Sexually transmitted Diseases (STD’s). Significant worries for the sex the travel industry would be the explicitly transmitted diseases that emerge. Shockingly, people contract savage infections, for example, AIDS through sex the travel industry, including sex laborers just as sex visitors. The utilization of condoms during sexual exercises isn’t obligatory, consequently, sex travelers may accept that they don’t need to utilize one since they are connecting with outsiders in a remote land, however truly, they are contracting explicitly transmitted contaminations and taking them back to western nations. Therefore, popular diseases in underdeveloped countries are affecting developed countries because of the sex tourism industry. (J. Grouchy &G. Campus,2015)

It will always be a debatable topic of whether Sex tourism is good or not. Many issues have developed from sex tourism. Because tourism is a source of economic benefits around the world, sex tourism is a branch of tourism that brings in revenue as well to underdeveloped countries. Although sex the travel industry increases stable economies, it diminishes the prosperity and work of these nations also. Sex the travel industry prompts misuse of people in poor nations, prompting globalization. Tragically, sex the travel industry has become a commanding industry that won’t be required to be postponed momentarily sooner or later. This is because of all types of tourism industry advantages too, for example, airlines, lodgings housing, visit administrators and nearby organizations all through the world. Yet, we can’t overlook the social perspective and we should consider the Well-being of the individuals compelled to work in that industry. We need to think about the damage it doing to our society we should bring humanity first. Economic growth and other things can be achieved in different ways also. Human should not be served as a product and analyzing all the negative impacts of sex tourism it should be discouraged.
