Solving a Major Problem of Home Networking: Analytical Essay

Abstract

in recent years we have seen an enormous change in the field of technology and living in this modern era of technology we are daily witnessing a diabolic change in this sector every new device we see is now functioning over the network letting us access it from anywhere anytime. Our normal device at home are now a part of network letting us access it from anywhere we want. This technology is often referred as Smart Home or Home Automation. This technology allow us the accessibility from anywhere through internet you can control their state or know their status.

Introduction

As technology now a days holds no barrier almost everything is now automated and after reaching this automated stage they started moving towards networks that allows us to access data from anywhere majority of our devices are now working over network successfully. Home Networking is an emerging technology which is spreading very rapidly what it is doing is allowing us to control our home appliances via network from anywhere we want [1] Home Networking allows our appliances to be controlled elsewhere but it requires a certain medium and that medium is internet which establish connection with the appliances by using some device that device directs it to the internet and then by our mobile phone or any other device we can access it [2] There are various other benefits of this technology we can share files through the network send different jobs over it like sending a document for printing over a network to a printer [3] there are various type of networks that can be used to apply Home Networking for a device. Common are END (Ethernet Network Design) WND (Wireless Network Design) etc. [4] Home Networking is an integrated technology which is easing and saving time of many people they don’t have to worry about things that are not near to them they can view and control those devices through the internet [5] Smart Touch Screens are an example of Smart Home Automation the technology has exaggeratedly spread in the entire world in a very short period of time. There is a small problem in the proposed device and that will be discussed in the problem section, however the device is a great hit and the concept has been adopted ever since it was released there are many companies working on this SMART HOME AUTOMATION project which lies under the category of both IOT and Networking. It involves certain hardware that comes in IOT sector like Raspberry Pi etc. and comes the part of networking we are using a network for communication between the device and the user. Networking devices also have many problems in it. In this research paper we will be focusing on solving a major problem that we will be discussing it will try to figure out some suggestion that possibly solve our problem.

Problem with the current system

Over the years there are a numerous example of home networking projects that have been running successfully in the market now and the customers are actually persuading others for buy Home Networking Devices because it is the future now, we know that no device is perfect there exists problems in every other machine/device. Smart Automation is an astonishing device but as for the case of the other device these devices also have many problems. There are so many devices that have been shifted over the network and these devices are either operated by their interface installed on the device itself and the other way is to operate through the network by using WI-FI, NFC or Bluetooth but we know that Bluetooth has a very limited coverage and there are no such extenders available for the Bluetooth and so is the case with NFC so the manufacturers shifted to WI-FI as this technology is fast, extendible and can be accessed from different locations. So WI-FI was used for communication between device and user. This was a better solution but it still had some flaws for instance the main flaw was if you or your device is not connected with the internet in that case communication with the device is not possible in that case the only way to communicate with the device is by using the interface installed on the device and you can only use the interface if you are standing beside the device so communication is not possible this is a big problem however the case is not very common but it is still a problem. There is no other substitute available for the wireless communication. Another major problem that we have identified in the wireless communication with the internet connection (WI-FI) is that wireless communication is not that much secured if your internet connection is breached your device can result in malfunctioning. There are certain device that are working on the wireless connection and there was malfunctioning reported that caused problems and trouble in certain events. So the current networking technology used by often devices are creating problems for the user and the using environment. These critics made the device less reliable as our access to it is limited and we are not safely transmitting the message to our device there is no acknowledgement received by the device these are a few issues that can create problems and other than that your device should be nearer to the WI-FI router so it can catch signals easily so there are a lot of limitations and problems that these devices are facing over the Home Network. There are a number of devices that are working on the principles of Home Networking some of them are Touch-Screen Switch Boards in which your normal switch boards will be replaced by new touch screens that will be your switch boards they can controlled by two different methods. By using the interface installed on the touch screens and the other way is through internet connection which we have found the problem.

Proposed solution

As we have discussed the problem with the networking system of the home appliances in the previous section. After evaluating all the weaknesses of the network system installed on the Home Automation devices. The solution we have figured out is installing a GSM (Global System for Mobile) card that is our proposed solution that will help us to solve the problem of connectivity by using this module. GSM module uses Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). GSM Module uses SIM cards which will be installed on the device by doing this we can communicate with the device via our phone SIM. When installed on the system we can configure the setting and instructions that what function will perform what action. We can send a message on the device and about the operation we want to perform. While adding this module we are not removing any other hardware from the system like WI-FI will be used just in the case if we lost the connectivity of the GSM module than we have our native system WI-FI module that can help us to retract our communication. When we will install the GSM module we have to configure all the commands. For instance we are turning on the Switch 1 and turning of the Switch 2 for that case our command will be something like Switch1 TURN ON and Switch2 TURN OFF these commands will be send through the GSM Module it will turn on the Switch1 and turn off the Switch2. GSM module can solve all the two main problems. Through GSM module we can send as much instruction as we can without interruptions and lower single connectivity. Through GSM Module we can transfer our instruction interruptedly without the need of internet connection. The Module installed in the device will receive the message and decodes the instruction and apply whatsoever it pulled in results. Other than that through GSM Module we can secure that our message can never be compromised it will be received by the other end correctly and through GSM Module we can confirm the acknowledgement from the the device that whether or not the device received or not.

Scope and limitations

The proposed solution to the problem have a great scope and side by side it has many limitation, the solution related to the connectivity and security. The GSM module was adopted by a well-known electronic company a while back their main focus was to give endless connectivity to the user. Orient a well-known company adopted GSM module for their AC (Air Conditioners) and their other appliances. These companies are working on Home Networking solution is to improve the living of the future.

Conclusion

Home Networking is emerging trail-blazingly, however it had a major issue which is discussed in the above and the solution we devised from our research, Home Networking will become avant-garde because the main purpose of this technology was to provide access over network the limitation of the network was holding it off but with the addition of the GSM module alongside the WI-FI module removed the limitation of the network, previously it was working on a single route and that was WI-FI which wasn’t reliable all the time but now with the addition of the GSM module which catches instruction from SMSC (Short Message Service Center) we made the communication between user and device more reliable and for this method you don’t need a featured phone you can communicate with your device via a SMS which is more secured you just have to know the format. The duo of WI-FI module and GSM module will solve all the networking related issues in the device because there are two powers running your system.
