Steady And Continuous Growth Of Literacy Skills
As per my examination result, I got a result of 50 percent and above which gave me a nudge that I could have done better and encouraged me to exercise more on my weaknesses. Also, a competitive feeling made me anxious ultimately leading to a misunderstanding of questions. Richardson & Suinn (1972) describe mathematics anxiety as “feelings of tension and anxiety that interfere with the manipulation of numbers and the solving of mathematical problems in a wide variety of ordinary life and academic situations” (p.551). To strengthen my areas of weakness, I analyzed that there are certain parts of Literacy that need competency because being a pre-service teacher this is my responsibility to nurture my knowledge and intelligence to the highest standards possible so that I can provide these skills to the children (Chapin & Johnson, 2006).
To teach me, I would make a plan that would be based on my results and challenges. It is necessary to make sure that the planning board should be made very carefully on the basis of Nation’s Best Practices. I would divide my study plan into sections. Like, I would choose a different kinds of resources possible to enrich my learning. I would make sure a time constraint is given to each area of concern. If required, I would go through visual Literacy study practices to improve my skills.
To implement that planning, I would start with the basics of Literacy via textbooks. Online study material/ web apps/ audio journals can also be used. Different kinds of activities in a real-time environment can also enhance the skills. For instance, worksheets, open-ended questions, or semi-structured interviews with colleague pre-service teachers are some of the ways by which intelligence can be improved. Based on a recent class of Literacy, I learned two effective learning styles i.e. Inchworm (quantitative learning as part-to-whole, step-by-step pencil work) and Grasshopper (qualitative learning as rounding up or down, works in heads and leaps) that would incorporate flexible thinking among mathematicians (Chinn, 2017).
Since our aim was to explore and work on areas of improvement, assessment is a pivotal part of an individual’s learning cycle. Over the complete cycle, I would do self-monitoring of the skills that have developed or needs improvement. By doing this self-assessment based on My Learning Plan, I would be nurturing my teaching quality that would help the children in the future to maintain a high standard of learning. I would also do an informal assessment by taking feedback from teachers or peer pre-service teachers that would motivate me to work persistently. Still, if there are any queries, then teachers can always be asked for their valuable suggestions and guidance.
To conclude, for the steady and continuous growth of Literacy skills, ongoing training and self-regulation of pre-service teachers are necessary that would assist in maintaining high standards (Djoub, 2017). These steps when taken in the right direction would improve competently learn
