Technology In Education: Education-related Multimedia Technologies For New Generation

My name is Hesam Baniabbasi and I’m a 6th-grade student from Towheed International School. Like most 6th graders I really like technology. But technology can’t just be used for entertainment. When I got my first cell phone, I was really excited to see what it could do for me and I was also surprised to find out that I can also learn from it. Technology can even help us learn entirely new languages. I even learned French from an app in my phone and it was extremely easy. At first, I thought it would be hard, but I was really mistaken.

As we all know technology plays a very big role in our lives. We use technology everyday including our smartphones, computers, TVs etc. Technology can be used for a lot of purposes such as education which is my today’s talk focus. Before the existence of the Internet, people had to buy books or borrow them from a library or ask others about questions they had in order to gain information, but nowadays people do not need to get through that much effort. Nowadays, it only takes a click of a button to find out the answer to almost any question you could think about. With regards to that, it seems almost impossible that how people used to live without any technology in the past. It is very efficient, and it makes learning much easier. We also use it in school. Most schools make use of smartboards for teaching school subjects to their students. Instead of using the traditional way of education including pen and paper or even blackboards, students can utilize their tablets or other electronic devices to write assignments. This could significantly reduce the amount of trees cut down to make paper. I’m sure all of you agree that getting a lot of homework or tests really winds your students up. Technology can help calm you down in many ways and people could invent devices, tools or, well, anything that entirely focuses on education.

Education shouldn’t be entirely dependent on technology. It should be a bit balanced and only partly be dependent on it so that students don’t get too bored of it. For example,let’s say that education could be divided into four parts: books, teachers, devices, and videos. Everything should be balanced, and each part would play an equal role in education while overlapping the other parts.

I’m sure that technology has a lot and when I say a lot, I do mean a lot of advantages. On the other hand, it also has a few disadvantages. In today’s world, most students have access to social media. Apps, websites and social media are really great ways of communication with other people but that means they might become a victim of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can lower people’s self-esteem and effect their self-confidence and may lead them to depression which, unfortunately, is not very uncommon.

Students might encounter unsafe websites, Internet games or social media which can distract their attention from their focus on their school subjects. This might sound farfetched, but some video games can help us use our creativity to go through the gameplay.

As most of you know VR or virtual reality is a cool way of experiencing games, events and many more things in the class. One time I tried it out and it completely blew my mind away. VRs can be used in education, too. ‘How?’ you might ask. Well, imagine trying to understand or visualize how a certain animal or event in history or something’s anatomy. With VRs you don’t need to try to think how something might happen or look like, you can just put your VR on and you get a better idea of what’s happening. People usually have trouble trying to understand how things look or how some kind of process happens and with VRs, that could really help. VRs can help you reenact events in history or maybe processes such as how the respiratory system in a human works.

The future of education can use technology in loads of different ways and could use VRs like I explained and can help make learning easier. The UAE has taken some preliminary steps in the implementation and use of technology-based on UAE 2021 education vision, and education can greatly benefit of this recent technology innovation and UAE schools are get switched on to virtual reality to boost learning.

Now we know that technology has a lot of uses relating to education and can help the educational authorities make education easier for the rising generation as well as upcoming generations. All these education-related multimedia technologies will definitely bring more fun to the students while, at the same time, making learning more interesting to them and I think that education should be an integration of all the current technologies employed in the field of education to provide the students with the necessary skills of living in the 21st century.
