The American Revolution took place in the Thirteen Colonies between the years 1763 and 1783. There were many participants in this war, however, Great Britain and the United States were the most prominent. Countries such as France and Spain joined the war as allies to the United States as a sign of revenge after losing to Great Britain in a previous war. Others, such as the Kingdom of Mysore and Native Americans, joined simply to assist with the overthrow of the imperialist rulers in their country. After many years, the United States Successfully won the war against Great Britain and earned its independence. This is a very important part of our history today.

The Stamp Act was one of the first things that started this war. This act began on March 22,1765. This is when Britain sets taxes on all public documents like newspapers and legal documents. The colonists did not like that they had to pay tax. So they went this made them mad and they wanted to settle this problem to make it the old way again. Also, a lot of people did not have the money to pay this extra tax because they have families.

The Boston Massacre took place on March 5, 1770. This was when 5 Boston colonists got shot by troops because they were protesting against them. The colonists got scared so they didn’t want to look like they were so they shot into the crowd of colonists. They shot five people and they were all dead or almost dead. The people who were shot were Crispus Attucks, Patrick Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick and James Caldwell. This made this time, even worse than it already was.

The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773. A group called The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and snuck onto the boat and threw off all of the crates of tea. They did this because of what were doing at this time. So they felt that this was a small act that would make them scarred. One of the most famous quotes from this event is, “no taxation without representation”. This means that did not vote to see if anyone wanted this to happen. The just did this so they could get more money.

The First Continental Congress Meets happened in September of 1774. All of the representatives from twelve of the thirteen colonies meet to oppose law. They did not like what had been doing to them so they wanted to make a change so they could go against them. So they made a plan and they had to find the people to execute this plan. This event was held at Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia.

Paul Revere’s ride happened on April 18, 1775. This is when the Revolutionary War starts. He finds out this information and goes around yelling, “The are coming.” He does this to where the people on what is happening. This right happen late at night. This lets them know that danger was headed their way.

The capture of Fort Ticonderoga happened on May 10, 1775. This is when The Green Mountain Boys went to go capture fort. This was a very sneaky attack because had no idea what was going to happen. So they ended up capturing this place and the small garrison. This attack was led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold.

The Battle of Bunker Hill was on June 16, 1775. This was a major battle, let by William Prescott. This happened at the beginning of the war. Bunker Hill is located in Charleston, Massachusetts. At the end of the war, came up with the upper hand. One famous quote from this event is, “don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes”.

The Declaration of Independence is Adopted on July 4, 1776. At this time this is when the Continental Congress gave Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence. This was all agreed upon during the Second Continental Congress. This was one of the most important events during this time.

George Washington Crosses Delaware happened on December 25, 1776. This is when George Washington crosses the Delaware River. They were on their way to go attack. This was a surprise attack so they had no time to prepare for what was going to happen to them. They were attacked in Trenton, New Jersey.

America Chooses A Flag happened on June 14, 1777. This is when the Continental Congress adopts the “Stars and Stripes” Flag has sewn by Betsy Ross. This flag was chosen to show that they were one. The flag had thirteen stars on it to represent the thirteen colonies. After so many years a lot of places have been added to the United States. So there are fifty stars on the flag now. They each represent each place in the United States. The same flag that was chosen is still the flag we use today.

The American Revolution is one of the most important times in history. If we did not win the war there would not be the United States. We are growing, and growing every day. Thank you George Washington for going to attack them and getting Independence.
