As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “marriage is a basic human right. You cannot tell people they cannot fall in love.” This is an aspiring quote to believe that we have the freedom to choose who we desire to accompany throughout our lives. However, marriage is not just any relationship between human beings and we all know that marriage was composed between a husband and a wife, but the definition of it was too subjective for our own perspectives, and for the last few decades, gays and lesbians have come out and expressed their sexuality preferences, we have different beliefs and we cannot deny the fact that there are some countries making same-sex marriage legal, but putting yourself in an open relationship with the same gender is obviously not biologically natural, both in law or in religion. We all know that same-sex marriage is not allowed by the Constitution of our country which is the Philippines, especially in our cultural norms. We are part of the Western culture and we preserved the moral standard that marriage is sacred and we are the instrument to respect the foundation of marriage.

In a recent study conducted by Mark Regnerus, he determined the populations of adults, both who lived in a home with heterosexual parents, and those who lived in a home where either one or both of the parents had been in a same-sex relationship in their lifetime. The results were surprising. It shows that a higher percentage of children who had parents with a past same-sex relationship used marijuana, smoked, were arrested and convicted for non-minor offenses, and thought about suicide (Regnerus). According to the legal and political hurdles abound in the Philippines context notably, the family code which stipulates that marriage must be between a man and a woman (Execute Order 2009, 1987). There was a huge difference in racing your children with the help of a mother and father, especially on giving them advice on how life works, both have different strategies on how to deal with any circumstances that you may encounter into your life, and to balance from having influences from a mother and a father they could always assure to help you in your developmental years, unlike the same gender parents there is only one gender having influence over their children lives. Thus, the same-sex lifestyle is not something to be the first option if you want natural and sufficient condition on having a family involved, a lot of research shows that it leads to a much lower life expectancy, psychological disorder, and other problems.

According to a Pew Poll, most religious communities believe same-sex marriage and even homosexuality, in general, are morally wrong and do not follow their religious beliefs (Waldman, 2003). Roman Catholics believe God created marriage as a lifetime union between one woman and one man with the purpose of having a loving relationship and for procreating, caring for, and teaching children (Charron & Skylstad, 1996). On the other hand, most of the Filipinos are Catholics, and we obey our lord on one of his saying that “God does not create a person with homosexual desires. A person becomes a homosexual because of sin” (Romans 1:24-27), but sins are forgivable, and some people stand for acceptability but we can do both. Forgiveness and acceptance can be partners, but no one can determine who you truly are as long as you are being true to yourself and does not hurt somebody else, just continue living your life to the fullest while choosing the right decisions.

In conclusion, this argument is sensibly heavy since we all have a different meaning of fairness and equality. But allowing the legalization of same-sex marriage in the Philippines and the majority of the religion is Catholic, adds more to a problem of changing the way society views. It is clear that values and beliefs have changed and that is part of the evolution but we need to remember our mission in life, we need to expand the population and keep our entire natural resources going, when the same-sex get married it was confusing for their children especially on explaining to them how reproduction works and not according to their situation, we are in the 21st century and we are given answers by the societies judgments knowing that only a man and a woman can pro-create. We have the freedom to love but in limitations, Each one of us must know where we belong look for your brighter side where you shine, because loving someone is unstoppable and a feeling you can’t resist, homosexual also have the freedom to love but in moderation not to the point that marriage is included in your choices either positively or negatively, because in order to strengthen the traditional family values essential to our society we must show some decency and dignity, toughen the definition and respect the institution of marriage that only a man and a woman can build a family and can create a baby, though we are in the digital world and we can make babies with the use of technology but you can never experience the feeling of the joy and the pain for nine months that only a mother could encounter.
