Lord Jeffrey Amherst is a man that modern day society and historians would consider a controversial topic. Jeffrey Amherst was the commanding general of forces that were sent to battle on the North American continent in the year of 1758, against the Native Americans and the French Army. This conflict was known as the “Seven Years War” to those in Europe, or the “French and Indian War” to those in America. During this war, Jeffery Amherst used a variety of tactics in order to conquer the enemy troops and secure dominance in North America for Great Britain. The one tactic that Amherst is known for is the use of germ warfare against the Native Americans, which consequently devastated the French allies. This action by Amherst was justified in the military standpoint of defeating the most prominent enemy and preventing future conflicts.At the time of the late 1800’s, there was still a continuing feud amongst the old world superpowers of Europe on the continent of North America. The conflict consisted of the French and the Native Americans against Great Britain and its colonies. It wasn’t till on July 7, 1763, Commander Jeffery Amherst the commanding general of forces in North America, was considering the use of Smallpox infected items in the battles against the natives who had sided with the French since they had the least amount of immunity against the old world diseases.
