Truth is a notion that is in constant debate over many centuries since we tend to have our own truths in life. Many people believe that truth is absolute and independent, while some others disagree, saying that truth is relative. I believe that truth varies from individuals and their differentiating perceptions of beliefs and decisions. I believe that truth is subjective and not at all absolute. For how do we know when something is really true or when it is false? We formulate opinions which in turn become our truths.

On account of that, truth often differentiates among individuals because of their contrasting viewpoints and opinions, adding to the mystery of the true definition of “truth”. Since one person’s definition of truth may not be another person’s definition. The truth is really dependent on the individual’s perception of culture, language, science, history, and society so in my opinion tends to more relative than absolute. For one person, the truth is based on facts, yet someone might argue that how do you know if the fact is true or not? It is all a matter of perspective. For instance, someone might believe that Newton’s laws of gravity are true yet someone might believe that at least one of his laws are false.

Therefore, since truth greatly depends on what’s true in the minds of the people it can blur into deception. For instance, in the New York Times article the mortician thought that the truth was that the guy”s wife was dead when she wasn’t. This shows, in this case, that his “truth” was not in fact true making it false. That truth often blurs in between what is believed to be correct and what is believed to be wrong. For example, in the same case of the mortician, the consequence of his “truth” was that the husband ended up burying a stranger. This shows that even when you believe that something is true, not saying it may avoid causing other people any form of grief. Because truth can become deception, the truth is not good to speak out loud.

Overall, in my opinion the truth is dependent of the individual’s mindset and it varies from people to people. That the truth is a double-edged sword, on one side it is an expression that corresponds to reality and happiness while on the other hand it is a beckon for disaster. That for some it is like the law, absolute and eternal, while for others it is forever changing.
