Viewer's Reflection On Spiderman: Opinion Essay

The movie follows a teenage boy named Miles Morales, Miles struggles to live up to his father´s expectations and finds a parental figure in his uncle Aaron. When Aaron takes him spraypainting in an abonded subway station he gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains spider-powers. The movie follows Miles as he tries to control his new found abilities. When he goes back to the abonded subway station to look for the spider, he walks into a fight between Spiderman and Green Goblin.

He discoveres that Spiderman is trying to stop a particle accelerator that could travel through dimensions from being activiated. But before he can do so he nearly gets killed by Prowler, a villain that works with KingPin. Spiderman gives Miles a USB-stick that he has to use to stop the accelerator and save the town. He then watches as Spideman gets killed by Kingpin and flees the scene while being chased by Prowler.

Later that night he goes to a store (run by Stan Lee) and buys a Spiderman costume. The next day he attempts to use his Spider-powers and falls down a building, breaking the USB stick. He goes to Spiderman´s grave to apologise for failing him. There he meets Peter B. Parker, Spiderman from a different dimension. Peter is from a dimension where Spiderman is less lucky and gets a way less happy ending. Miles convinces him to train him to become a real Spiderman. They go to the Alchemax lab to get recources to build a new USB-stick. Here they find Olivia Octavius, a scientist who is working for Kingpin to help him create his accelerator. They also find out that Miles has the ability to become invisible. Doctor octavia, who reveals herself to be one of Spiderman´s enemies “Doc Ock“, tells Peter that his body is beginning to deteriorate while he is in the wrong dimension.

When Doc Ock chases them through the woods, Spider-woman appears to save them. She reveals herself to be Gwen, a girl Miles knows from his school. Gwen tells them that she is also from a different dimension. We then find out that Kingpin is trying to get his dead family back through the accelerator, Doc Ock promises him that it will work. Gwen, Peter and Miles travel to the Original Spiderman´s, aunt´s house. They ask her if she knows how to make another USB-stick and she takes them into the shed in the backyard, which transforms into a huge Spiderman base. Aunt May reveals 3 more Spidermen who also came to her for help; Spider-Noir, Spider-Ham and Penni Parker. Penni tells them that the only way to go home to their own dimension is if one person stays behind and destroys the accelerator after the rest goes through it. The group decides that Miles is too unexperienced, Miles leaves the base and goes to his uncle´s house. Uncle Aaron is out of town for a while and Miles decides to leave him a letter. While writing the letter, Prowler comes in. Miles turns invisible and after scanning the room for anyone, Prowler takes off his mask to reveal that he is actually Miles´s uncle, Aaron. Aaron notices Miles and chases him down the street, not knowing that he is actually his cousin. Meanwhile Penni has created a new USB-stick.

Miles goes to Aunt May´s house, and then finds out that Prowler, Doc Ock and 2 others followed Miles to the house. After a huge fight scene, Prowler is about to kill Miles when he lifts his mask and realises it´s his cousin. He decides not to kill him and gets shot by KingPin. Aaron tells him he´s sorry and tells him all will be fine right before dying in his arms. Miles´s dad finds Spiderman and Aaron´s dead body and thinks that Spiderman did it. Miles goes back to his dormroom in a rage and all the Spidermen talk about the person they had to lose to get where they are. Peter tells him he can´t come with them to destroy the accelerator, Miles refuses and they fight. Peter uses his webs to stick him to his desk chair and tape his mouth, Miles is stuck. While he´s stuck his dad comes to his door and talks to him, telling him that he believes in him and he loves him. Miles gathers all his powers and breaks free from the webs. He travels to aunt May´s house and gets his very own Spider-suit and webshooters.

He travels around city using his webs and goes to accelerator. They find out that KingPin is holding a dinner to remember Spiderman and they dress as waiters to get in. Meanwhile Doc Ock is starting up the accelerator. A wave of weirdness comes out of the machine and changes various sights in the city. The entire room gets warped into a crazy alternative dimension with floating objects and bright colors.

In an intense battle they defeat all the villains and Miles decides he is the one that has to destroy the machine. Penni´s robot dies and the others comfort her and take her with them. Miles gets the USB to the machine and starts to reverse the process. One by one all the Spidermen go back to their own dimension. Gwen and Miles confirm their friendship, Spider-Ham gives Miles a hammer, Spider-Noir brings a Rubix cube with him and Penni tells them goodbye from her and her spider. Peter let´s himself fall into the portal in an emotional moment and Miles is left to defeat KingPin on his own. Miles almost gets killed until he sees his dad stand on the sideline, telling him to get up. He does and he destorys KingPin with one epic hand movement, while also pushing the button to destroy the entire machine. The city turns back to normal and Miles´s dad trusts Spiderman agaian. Miles nearly falls into the machine but survives. A huge explosion ends with Miles hanging from a single web in the middle of a huge crater. Miles, dressed as Spiderman thanks his dad and hugs him. Miles announces to everyone he is the new Spiderman and delivers KingPin to the police. The movie ends with every character getting the ending they deserve and a supportive speech by Miles.

-The message the movie brings is very positive, it tells you that you can do anything, whoever you are. It tells you to believe in yourself and it tells you that whatever happens you can always get back up again.

-The animation style is extremely well done, the graphics are amazing. The Spidermen from different dimensions are in different animation styles and the frames per second differs between characters. The style is very cartoon-like and the visuals often switch between realistic and complete comic book style.

-The soundtrack, all the songs fit the movie perfectly and it really brings you into the universe that the movie is in. The soundeffects are incredibley done and really make you feel like it´s happening right in front of you.

-The characters are very well crafted and at the end of the movie you really feel like you have a connection with them. Their backstories and the diversity between them makes them all amazing in their own way.

-A lot of things happen at the same time, so it sometimes can be hard to keep track.

-There is some small plotholes in the story that don´t make complete sense. Like some motives of characters and reasoning behind certain actions.

(This was the hardest part to make because this movie is AMAZING.

This movie is one of my favorite movies ever. It combines beautiful animation with a wonderful story and a lot of amazing action. I personally love Miles´s connection with his family, like his special bond with his uncle and his troubles with his dad. It feels very real and authentic. Every character is so well crafted and has their own personality and things that drive them to achieve their goals. I also really love the message the movie brings, to always believe in yourself and never give up, that anyone can be Spiderman and life is a leap of faith. Because that´s exactly what it is.

Me: How did you get into spraypainting?

Miles: My uncle introduced me to it. I was a very creative kid and he saw a talent in me.

Me: Do you miss him?

Miles: Yes. Very much. Sometimes i still blame myself for his death.

Me: Do you miss your spider-friends?

Miles: Yes!! Ofcourse! I miss them every day, I hope they know I love them all.

Me: Who do you miss the most?

Miles: Ugh, don´t make me choose! I think Peter and Gwen, if I HAVE to pick. THey thought me the most.

Me: Do you have a crush on Gwen?

Miles: Pffffffftttt.. No….. I mean.. She´s pretty.. And smart.. And really cool.. But uhh……… No, no I don´t.

Me: Do you think you´ll be Spiderman forever?

Miles: I sure hope so! Not the only one though.
