Imagine gathering all the garbage you produced in one year, are you disappointed with the quantity? If you are disappointed here is your chance to change. Teens aged 14-19 who use many one-use plastics far more than they reuse or recycle is a main factor of why our environment is failing (Bennett, 2018). In addition to teens, many other Canadians do not take the time to improve the way they treat our environment. Canada’s environment is being damaged by non-recyclable products that are disposed of incorrectly. As a result, our waterways are becoming filled with garbage and the toxic manufacturing we rely on is causing the ozone layer to burn (Bennett, 2019). Teens in today’s society need to be motivated to help save our precious environment. You as teens are bombarded by so many new products that you have no idea what to do except use them and throw them out. The first step you should take is to explore effective ways to make a positive impact on Canada’s environment. As a part of society, you need to start helping our environment and slow down climate change by making environmentally smart choices. Most importantly, teens such as yourself need to take a more active role in improving Canada’s environment.

Positively influencing our environment will open your mind to new experiences. First, if you choose to make a difference in our environment it will push you to step outside your comfort zone. For example, you can help by cleaning up waterways but, you also help yourself. You help yourself by getting in touch with nature and experience how you fit into society. Next, cleaning up the environment can reduce your stress. You will feel fulfilled and accomplished after making an effective change in Canada’s natural environment (LSRCA, 2014). Did you know that if you plant a Silver Drop Tree and it grows for 55 years it will eliminate 25,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (Marinelli, 2011)? Third, being outdoors can reduce your stress and depression. Being outdoors can also increase your level of energy and boost your concentration (LSRCA, 2014). This is especially important for teens because we often feel so overwhelmed that we are unable to focus on everyday tasks. By choosing to make a difference in the environment you are also helping society because you are moulding yourself into a more productive individual. In conclusion, feeling good about yourself is an amazing feeling, however, making someone else’s quality of life better is an even greater joy.

By positively impacting the environment you not only help future generations of animals you can also help future generations of humans as well. First, you should strive to keep animal habitats clean and safe. You should make it your personal goal to manage your waste so that you reduce landfills from overflowing into our precious waterways. Next, you can be a part of improving the quality of life for others around you. Choose to make an impact on the environment and your contribution can improve air quality and cleanliness of our water sources (Harrowsmith, 2007). Third, LSRCA states that if you improve the environment you will improve your mood but also improve your health by breathing cleaner air. All the power to make a change is in your hands. You must now make a decision of whether or not you will help our environment. Imagine yourself, just an average teen making great strides in helping Canada’s environment, now all you need is a strong and effective way to make it happen.

There are affordable and effective ways to help clean up our environment. First, try buying clothing that is produced exclusively with recycled material. Eighty-five percent of textiles we use in Canada are wasted (Nichols, 2016). Next, as a teen, you may feel that you can’t contribute as much because you are only a teen. However, there are many ways that you can make a difference. For example, walking instead of driving, planting a tree or simply eliminating plastic straws from your life. By doing these tasks you can improve your physical health and increase the amount of fresh air you breathe. Third, as long as you continue to play your part in helping, Canada’s natural environment will slowly start getting better. We as Canadians need to become aware that thousands of chemicals can be used in the making of everyday products such as shoes (Grossman, 2014). All you need to do is recycle all that can, by recyclable items and reduce waste to protect waterways and animal habitats. Now take this information and make a change whether it is small or large, as long as it helped the environment you have helped greatly.

All people especially teens live such busy lives that they often forget to stop and take a moment to reflect on how they treat our environment. As a result of not knowing how our products are made we run the risk of purchasing products that harm our environment (Grossman, 2014). You will feel accomplished that you have helped future generations in Canada. Most importantly, you can now share your knowledge of how to positively impact Canada’s Environment with everyone that you interact within your everyday life. Also, take what you have learned here and apply it to your own life and way of thinking. You should also share with your peers so they too can make a difference in our environment. All teens have the ability to help Canada’s natural environment in some way. However, you especially has what it takes to make a change so prove me right and make a change today.
