A literacy analysis is analyzing a story, poem, or anything that is written as long as its themes, symbols, and other things with a deeper meaning. For example: The pit and the pendulum written by Edgar Allan Poe a famous American written who specialized on poems, and dark stories. Edgar Allan Poe was born in the United States in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 19, 1809. The pit and the pendulum is about a unknown narrator who is being punish by several judges around the time of the Spanish inquisition. The narrator describes every single detail that surrounds him, or even how he feels in the situation that he is involve at the moment. The narrator is being punish and sent somewhere dark and spooky, at first the narrator believes he’s buried alive in a tomb something that he’s extremely scared but that’s not it, he notices that he can walk around but he’s not able to see anything. He starts walking and counts how many steps he’s walked. This keeps going for several times and the narrator is given food which has some kind of sedative that makes the narrator pass out. Towards the end of the story the narrator is being held and captured on a chair and pendulum going down by time.

A point that is worth mentioning is that despite the simplicity of the environment where the story takes place, Poe manages to go into such a deep detail that it leads us to feel that as readers we are spectators of a very complex and hostile scenario, which takes the protagonist to the limit as the story progresses. We must also highlight the ability of the author to keep the reader aware of the turn that it can take, because being a changing scenario, the character could disappear from one moment to another, due to the dangers that could arise with an unfavorable change in the stage. From the character we can say first that being both protagonist and narrator, gives us a closer view of the facts and puts us face to face with them, because it is different for an omniscient narrator to tell us the story, that the same protagonist Can you tell us what happens or what you feel. From the psychological profile of the character, we can conclude by the related facts that it is a persistent and insightful individual, who, despite being in a hostile scenario, manages not to succumb to him, which pays off at the end of the story.
