Digital Art As A New Art Form

Art is the process of using creative and imaginative skills that are typically expressed visually which primarily produces beauty or emotional feeling. Digital art, on the other hand, fairly similar to ‘art’, however instead of painting or drawing by hand, it is done digitally (mainly on a tablet). Legitimate form of art is an art that accepts the norms and values/standards, as well as conforms with the law. This is why digital art can be considered as a legitimate form of art as it goes under all those criteria. In steps 2-4, I will be looking at the process of how digital art is created and the steps to how artists create their work.

One process of digital art is using photoshop to edit and change the colour of a background of photos. To do this you could either select the background and going to edit hue and saturation. Or just go to hue and saturation without selecting anything and you can choose what colours to change this is useful because you can edit the grass to make it greener. All though it is just pushing a button to create the final piece someone did go out take time a took a bunch of photos and then they need to edit the photos to make it look better.

Digital art is like any other art. It just is created using different tools than the more traditional arts. Art is not about the tools used to create it. It is about the vision, message, or emotion of the artist or the interpretation of the viewer. Photography is a medium through which artists may create art. A computer is just a tool through which an artist can express their vision of line, colour, composition and rhythm. An artist chooses the tool or material such as oils, watercolours, or pixels they want to use. When the digital artist, has mastered the tools and technologies of software equipment, the skills involved with digital art can go beyond just “taking a digital picture” or only “applying an effect” and create art. An individual expression of their vision. Digital Art falls into three categories, (digital painting, digital photography and darkroom, and fractals). There are several subcategories and, the artist can combine any and all to create their own creative vision. An example of a digital art software/tool is vector drawing, artists use vector drawing software and create the image in a virtual environment. This makes use of shapes which are outlined and can be filled with various colours and patterns. This produces a harder-edged graphic look.

When creating an art piece artist go through many design stages with mock up drawings of what they might want to see in the final product. Digital artists may even create a Conceptual art drawing which is the artwork that grows out of a design process like a top of the line idea to support the story which is being told through the artwork. These artists also need to think about the needs and want through their art like having a ballerina dancing holding onto a support pole and want might be another dancer to exemplify the scales and dimensions of the artwork.
