Introduction

Jazz music has the melodious sound effects which have all the elements of music including harmony on the notes which are the sound fuller. It also has a rhythm which is considered as a heartbeat of the soundtrack. This paper aimed to discuss the reflections of three different concerts in which certain points are focused for adding in the paper. The paper mainly focuses on the type of musical instruments and the way performers showed their performances along with response of their audience. Other points include the location of the concerts for Jazz music. In the class I heard several jazz songs that were played by many instruments such as trumpet, drums, bass and saxophone which inspires me to go to the concert. The three concerts have many melodious sounds which shows a neat effect that kept my interest in the concerts.

Concert 1

Attending for the very first time JJF18 LEE RITENOUR Java Jazz festival 2018 was a great experience. The venue was a concert hall at JIEXPO Jakarta in Kwemayoran. This was the biggest jazz event held in Indonesia and was also entertaining by a series of different musicians who attended eleven JJF18 stages. The instruments that were used throughout the concert were guitars, piano keyboard, drums, and bass. The bass was the one who often called my attention, while the piano keyboard was played by Otmaro Ruiz, though had faced slight difficulties in setting the amplifier for creating a rhythmic melody and sound in the whole concert. The rhythm was turned to more melodious sound by the bent notes with specifically designed modes, swing and syncopation, and improvisation.

There are four different instruments used in the concert named as piano, guitar, bass, and drums. All instruments are played with each other to make an entire jazz theme in the overall concert. The sound of the guitar was mainly noticed in the entire jazz music and played by the lead guitarist “Lee Ritenour” with his son Wes Ritenour. Playing drum and the music of the second guitar harmonize the mindset and add emotional effects on the mind of many audiences. They were not singing only the guitar with other connected instruments were played throughout the concert. The strings of the guitar played by Lee Ritenour shows his excellent jazz sounds. The rhythm was turned to more melodious sound by the bent notes with specifically designed modes, swing and syncopation, and improvisation. In addition to the piano sounds on the stage able to absorb most of the Java Jazz audience and collaborate with a reliable drummer who engaged the audience with his instruments. They did not sing a song rather the only played instruments which shows a great melodious sound. Not only the lead guitarist Lee Ritenour, but the other performers also showed the bet and power interrupted by their instruments. They represent their strong collaboration on JJF2018.

The audience was not involved in the entire concert. However, at the end of the concert the audience shows a great response by loud voices and clapping a represents a great response over Lee`s reactions when he reaches the contact with his audiences. Only Lee talked with the audience when the concert was about to an end to engage more interest with the audiences and empower them to present energetic feedback. The bass was easiest to notice and very soft to my taste and was played by Hadrien Feraud. I responded to many beats when it was carried by the low-pitched instruments which show the deepest bass effects. The sounds were increasingly getting louder whereas the piano and drums combined to change the rhythm which shows that the passion of the entire melody was the motivation the audience to fall into the flow of rhythm. Throughout the concert, the drummer and the pianist shows a great output in collaboration with the bass made the rhythm unforgettable.

Concert 2

The second Jazz concert was held at the conference of world affairs named as CWA Jazz Concert which represents the long-term tradition in the CWA week. There were numerous world-class musicians came in the concert to present their talents to their audiences. The concert was held at Macky Auditorium where a large number of the audience came to enjoy the concert of world famous musicians. There were different types of instruments used in the entire concert. There were drums kits, guitar, bass, percussion, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone which makes the entire sound effect energetic for the audience. Two singers sang the songs throughout the entire concert. Featuring a performance by Cyrille Aimee who was known as the award-winning singer for French Jazz music. The Jazz music I observed was played by different songs. However, all the song classified as jazz but every song has its style and melodious effect.

The compositions used in the concerts has shown a deep effect on the audience and adapted to use for further programs in many different ways. Their compositional style moderately appeared like their jazz piano improvisations where they varied different melodies. The musical genres influenced the audiences in the concert. The form of the entire concert was the same, and there was no detailed introduction was given before the songs only a melodious theme was introduced. The beginning of the songs seemed like slow, funky and earthy sounds which make it fall under jazz themes. The guitarist appeared to be fully involved during his solo. A massive piano player extended to work on beautiful background music which was memorable and the powerful drum player thrilled the overall audience with his other players. The concert has a remarkable arrangement of every musical instrument which fits best to every song of the concert.

The crowd of the audience was involved however does not display in the concert largely. I heard everything in the concert. The style of music and the contribution o both singers to Jazz music as an arranger, composer, and melodious made the intense and deep connection with instruments that were played by the world-class musicians. A distinctive rhythm was endowed to the Jazz music at the beginning of the concert as the Jazz music always shows a rhythmic and instrumental form of music — Cyrille Aimée, jazz singer, renowned by her enormous performance with greatest trumpet players with his band. The players of musical instruments draw upon straight-ahead jazz and contemporary melodies to represent as a fresh sound in the concert. I was a high and loud night, and the audience seemed appreciating all the musicians and performers at the end. It was fascinated to me, the way the musicians played every instrument had enriched the soul and mind. The bass system was perfectly organized, and the saxophone had made the sound effects so much fascinating I enjoyed the overall performance as I impress and surprised by the saxophone player which produced an excellent theme of music, especially the solo piano part which only consisted in the theme music.

Concert 3

The third concert was by the George Benson held at Royal Albert Hall. The instrument used in the concert was George`s guitar, and the overall band has its instruments. This include; bass played by Stanley Banks, MD and Keyboards played by David Garfield, keyboards played by Thom Hall, guitar played by Michael O’Neil, a drum played by Khari Parker and lastly, the percussion was played by the Liliana de Los Reynes throughout the concert. The band requires no warm up as they were already grooving as their music was already rhythmically in a groove from the beginning. It seems very remarkable that many of the embers in the concert became stretched out on many of George’s groovier tunes. At one moment Benson switched up the setlist with surprising songs “Don`t know why” and “you are the love of my life.” In the second song, Liliana de Los Reyes joined him.

There was only one singer as the concert was completely designed for the George Benson who was a renowned jazz vocalist and a legendary jazz guitarist and he made the concert as the most enjoyable concert of all time. He swaggered on a dark stage and wore a black jacket with a manifesting disco charm. George himself shows improvisations in playing his guitar with jazzy sound effects while the keyboard effects also reflect the improvisations by which he sang takes two most famous instrumental tracks reminding many of the audiences that he is a heat of a jazz instrumentalist. Before every song, George Benson engaged with his audiences and set the introduction of the next song which shows a great presentation of the melody. The list of the tracks played by the band appeared to become a structure around the contrast of his songs.

I observed the audience was extremely involved with his sounds. I saw many people who became crazy and stood near to his stage and appreciate his performance with loud voices and clapping sounds.

George during and after his soundtrack performance talked informally with his fans who respond to him in a very energetic way as he loved by his fans due to his excellence in the Jazz musical sounds. I saw a lady who wore white gown continuously dancing near the stage on his songs along with other ladies who were enjoying his performance. The people of all ages have enjoyed the concert as I observed they were standing, clapping and moving their hands as a joy to appreciate his melodies sound effects. The audience waved their phone torches with cheeky smiles and dances to the sounds of musical instruments. I heard all the tracks and background music, and some of the karaoke effects as the set up was perfectly organized for a large number of people. It was so clear that this was the greatest concert that I enjoyed a lot. After this concert, I realized that it appeared to be perfect for Benson George who received the Jazz Impact Award in the past for his jazz vocals and guitar sounds.
