When we support the dairy industry we are inflicting more pain on cattle than you think. Don’t be fooled by the feel good labels the dairy industry use, these labels are just window dressing. All dairy farming depends on the exploitation and destruction of motherhood. In fact the dairy industry is at least as cruel as the meat industry. Ever since the first cow udders were yanked by human hands, the substance has invited inspection, suspicion, fear and desire. But these days, we milk drinkers are so disconnected from where our milk comes from that it could well originate in a vending machine. The typical dairy buyer lives in a suburb, and likes to imagine that milk still comes from a small family farm with a red barn and cows grazing on a hill, where loving human hands squirt milk from the animals’ udders into a pail.

But what is the reality, First of all for a cow to give milk just like a human she must be pregnant or have recently given birth for that to happen in the dairy industry a human will artifically inseminate the cow, they do this on an apparatus in the industry commonly known as a rape rack she has a 9 month pregancy just like a human and then gives birth. When she gives birth, her babies are dragged or pulled away within 24 to 36 hours after birth because they can’t have the baby staying around and drinking all the milk that humans want. So they separate the mothers from their babies, this is one of the most traumatic experiences for a mother in her life she’ll often cry and bellow for days returning to the last spot she saw her babies, looking in the same direction she last saw her babies it’s devastating. These babies they’re also obviously scared as well crying for their mothers, the baby boys are waste products immediately they will be sent to the slaughterhouse these babies will be shot in the head with a bowl gun it fires a ball through their skull into their brain just to pierce their brain enough to stun them and then they get their throats slit these babies, the most cute innocent beings on this planet so gentle so soft couldn’t hurt if they tired that’s how we treat them we kill them for veal. If a calf is a girl, she will become a dairy cow and the cycle will continue.

Unlike what farmers want us to believe most dairy cows have no chance to graze in pastures or live freely they live in enclosed spaces these milking sheds consist of customarily concrete flooring as its inexpensive and considered easy to clean. However it can cause problems as it is hard, abrasive and slippery when covered in water and urine- resulting in serious injuries to the cows. The same applies with bedding usually a cheaper option is used- that is straw or wood shavings. The best material is likely a soft synthetic that provides comfort without increasing the risk of infection. It has been shown that poor flooring and bedding can compromise the lying and resting behaviours of cows which can be associated with increased levels of stress- which results the cows milk production and quality- poor production and quality means shorter life span as they become unprofitable. According to the ASPCA cows are currently producing about 20 litres of milk per day- this is 10 times more than cows living a few decades ago. This is due to bovine growth hormones, in natural diets and being bred selectively to mass milk production.

The enormous physical effect it takes to produce that much milk will ruin a cow’s body, this never ending milking causes serious damage to the body of the cows often their breasts become inflamed causing mastitis a very painful infection. Then after 5 to 7 years of being so severely exploited they can’t continue anymore so the cow collapses these cows are called downers and they’re dragged out by whatever means to be killed and sold for beef. But even if they don’t collapse after 4 to 5 years their milk production is low so they are killed anyway. So a dairy cow’s life ends at around the age of 5 years. Where as the natural lifespan of a cow roaming is 18 to 22 years, maybe even 30. So basically these are like children we are doing this to- Why, why do we do all this? Why all this cruelty? Why all this deception? Why all this killing of these gentle, innocent animals, well people like a piece of cheese on their sandwich, a bit of cow’s milk in their coffee, a bit of cow’s milk on their cereal.

You now realise that the dairy industry is the meat industry in waiting as every single dairy cow that you will ever buy milk that came from ends up being killed for meat. You see when your being raised for meat your just raised for meat and killed. But when your a dairy cow you are sexually exploited, emotionally and physically exhausted until you can’t take it anymore and then your killed for meat. Sounds worse to me.
