Earth Science: General Information Concerning Oceanography

Abstract

Oceanography studies the oceans’ past and present and makes predictions for the future. 70 percent of the earth is made of water and nearly 97 percent of that is saltwater there are tons of things discovered and still left to be discovered.

Introduction

Oceanography applies science, geography, meteorology, science, and different parts of science to the investigation of the sea. Today is particularly significant as environmental change, contamination, and different variables are undermining the sea and its marine life.

Oceanography is a field that studies and influences sustainable fisheries, economic growth and the environment.

At times when the ocean is in danger because of climate change and pollution, when the coastlines are eroding, and entire species of marine life risk of extinction, the role of oceanographers becomes more important than it has ever been. Times similar to these we are currently living in when everything seems to be collapsing. We need to save the oceans the biggest source of water ever known to us and to do that we need oceanography.

Materials and Methods

Oceanography is divided into different branches. Each one of them describes mostly studying something different from the other.

The four main branches are :

• chemistry
• physics
• biology
• and geology

Ocean chemistry-

This branch deals with how the different chemical properties of the oceans interact with marine life their ecosystems etc

At this moment this is an exceptionally well-known subject since environmental change is going on from higher ozone-depleting substances going into the climate. Furthermore, around 80 to 90 percent of the warmth made from this proceeds to be assimilated into our seas. As the seas after some time become increasingly acidic, sea science contemplates the substance properties of seas collaborating incorporating biological systems found in seas, flows, and the liquid elements.

Ocean Physics-

Ocean currents move around the ocean with huge amounts of water. To measure the motion happening oceanography use ocean physics. This particular branch also shows the relationship between the ocean floor waters and the atmosphere.

Ocean Biology-

This branch studies the flora and fauna or plants and animals found in the oceans and their relationship and interactions with each other and the ocean’s environment. Basically how they behave.

Ocean Geology-

This has its focus on how the floor of the ocean changes as time passes.

An example is a paleoceanography this is how ocean history is reconstructed including how they moved and evolved in the geologic past.

Research of this branch provides critical information, such as information about the seismic activity there, that could lead to more accurate earthquake and tsunami predictions, something which is a big advantage to us.

A geological oceanographer examines the geography, structure, and geographical procedures of the seafloor to find how the Earth and seas were shaped and how continuous procedures may transform them later on.

Results

Oceanography is the logical investigation of the sea. It is identified with marine material science and science. Be that as it may, oceanographers are considering sea life, yet additionally different territories.

Oceanography is probably the broadest field in the Earth Sciences and contains geophysics and plate tectonics, petrology and sedimentation procedures, and micropaleontology and stratigraphy.
