Abstract

Character education is mostly discussed around academic researchers, they are discussing deeply about how the impact of education to build a character which have many effects so it would be reinforcement for students’ character nowadays. Therefore, many researchers try to increase the ability of student potential good character. Several things that being a way to support the education as a place for developing character education in national student which hope that would better dan before the education have. Scout is considered able to change students’ character from the individuality student to be more active and creative, discipline, independent and so on. This paper is hoping that scout activities is going to be a builder for character education in order that can be proved by researcher and other.

1. Introduction

Nowadays, the education is considered to have a significant role to make students’ character. It is held because many problems of students’ character which have a worst effect to around their environment. To make it easily finished so need a break to block it. From student’s entire problem can be known that it is crucial something to national system especially government as servicer to fulfil what student need. The propose of government is to build the nations in educating them. The aims of national education are developing the potential of students in order to be human truth dan religious to the god, good behaviour that required by society, nation and state (UUD, 2003). In implementing national education need an effort which effected to the students’ character. Williams, et al., (2003:33) says that event if this education is not available in our activity especially students’ daily which often lead to the negative effect such as criminality action. Muchlas Samani, Hariyanto(2014:45) stated in character education as direction for student to be human with good character who are able to positionate mind, body, sense and wish appropriately. And also, the character education can be viewed as moral and value education which have skill or ability as requirement to differenciate between better and worst activity.

Therefore, building the education is one of the solutions to develop they’re fastest changing. At this moment, many schools that used extracurriculars as a media to form student’s ability or skill in building their character and the activity of extracurriculars. Scout is one of the ways to reach achievement of student. So for that, it will be created a personality, creativity, many disciplines others(Mislia, Mahmud, & Manda, 2016). In this case, as known by academic people especially from scout movement organisation state that the intention of it is for reaching 3 aspects such as the aims, main tasks and the function in scout principle or AD/ART of scout movement. There are several things that still correlate with the goal of national education. Where it is required like in the first point says that scout movement has four aims. Firstly, personality in noble behaviour, life skills, healthy body, and care for the environment(Munaslub & Pramuka, 2012). Furthermore, the scout movement tries to be a tool for student’s character with the way of making their awareness toward importance of evaluation in their selves’ personality.

Based on the natural education literature refers to a comprehensive field of study, or the implementation of scout activities consist of theoretical and research-based works that tries to build students’ character through students’ in scout activity that make them active to grow their character.

2. Literary review

2.1 Character Education

Character education focuses on basic human character, which is derived from universal moral values. It comes from religion and is also referred to as the golden rule. According to psychologists, there are some basic character values. They are love of God and his creation (nature with its contents), responsibility, honest, respectful and polite, affectionate, caring, and cooperation, confidence, creativity, hard work and solid, justice and leadership, good and humility, tolerance, love of peace, unity and love. The implementation of character education in schools should be based on the values of basic character. It was further developed into values that are more or higher (which are not absolute or relative) in accordance with the needs, conditions, and school environment (Faturrohman, 2013).

Based on the above view, the development of character education in schools should be guided by the principles of character education. Therefore, its implementation is running effectively and efficiently. There are some principles of character education. The first is promoting the basic values of ethics as a base character. The second is identifying the character comprehensively so that it includes thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. The third is using a sharp, proactive and effective approach to building character. The fourth is creating a school community that has a concern. The fifth is giving an opportunity to students to show good behaviour (Mislia, Mahmud, Manda, 2016). The sixth is having coverage of the curriculum that is meaningful, challenging and respecting all students. The seventh is building the students’ character and helping them to succeed. The eight is trying to increase self-motivated of the students. The ninth is functioning all school employees as a moral community that share responsibility for character education and are faithful to the same basic values. The tenth is the division of moral leadership and broad support in building initiatives for character education. The eleventh is functioning families and community members as partners in order to build character and to evaluate the character of the school, teachers, and school employees. It is also to manifest a positive character for the students’ life (Mislia,2016).

2.2 Scouting Abilities

Scouting abilities scouting abilities are material about scouting obtained by a scout member from the attended activities. These Abilities become the provision of practical knowledge that is ready to be used at any time. Mastery of these ability is adjusted to some things. They are ages of scout members, the length of scout members who are following the scouting activities, and the quality of the scoutmaster in providing material about scouts (Mislia,2016). Scouting abilities are a must for the students. Society assumes that every member of the scout certainly has knowledge and abilities that can be used as a basis to solve all the problems in daily life. In order to meet these needs, scoutmaster is required to have a set of scouting knowledge that can be applied to the students. Scouting skills in the realm of development can be grouped into five. First, spiritual ability is the ability that shapes the attitudes and behaviour of scouts in daily life. Second, emotional skill is the skill or intelligence in managing the heart and emotions. Third, social skill is the skill in interacting with others. Fourth, intellectual ability is intelligence ability. Fifth, physical ability is an ability that physically becomes the needs of students as a provision addressing the challenges and obstacles

Scout education is system to enhance student’s enthusiasm to achieve their achievement. The achievement that students need at this time is a good behaviour related to their daily life. Scout movement in scout national system adopted from the hero of national education. Ki Hajar Dewantara said that “be every place as your school and be a person as your teacher” means that to be a good person which have strong character who has flexibility character to be everything is a value got being a developer in life. As known, that in scout given Dasa Dharma as a noble principle for scout boys or girls. To identify the values of Dasa Dharma is one of way to recognize the true character of scout member is with know about how deeply their understanding and applying the Dasa Dharma. Therefore, in this result would share what the aims and the values of Dasa Dharma in their scout daily activities.

3 . Conclusion & suggestion

According to studies above, as known that in scout activities is a something very importance to be understood and to be applied by every scout boys and girls include on scout principle values. Actually, from the table above, clearly to mentioned point of values to prove that aims are to improve character education from each student better than before. Therefore, it supposed to be smart way to change national education system better. If each student knows and implement what scout activities are, it would be part of solution to the problem students’ character. Many ways able to take moral values from the scout activities because all this time that activities are regarded is not significant yet until exactly there is someone who have a brilliant idea to realize it. In addition, there are two conclusion statements from researcher that possible able to suggest next researcher is:

  1. 1. Building the character education through scout activities considered could be one of finishing in character education problem.
  2. 2. Scout activities is firstly must be comprehended by students’ mind side in order that students able to apply all of elements in it. From verbal and non-verbal scout activities would stimulate their energy to conduct scout activities perfectly. Therefore, the goal of character education indeed easier to be achieved.
