Revelation: Hinduism Versus Christianity

Hinduism and Christianity are very different belief systems, even by the way they were each founded. Hinduism is said to be founded upon revelation and its primary source of this foundation is through writings such as the Vedas and the Upanishads. Christianity also receives many of their beliefs and foundations from writings but it is not said to be founded upon revelation but founded on truth and founded on creation from the beginning of time. The teaches of Hinduism and Christianity, however, are very similar in that they both consist of having three major personas or deities that are worshiped. In Hinduism, they are Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the savior), and Shiva (the destroyer or restorer). Likewise in Christianity, the trinity consists of God (creator), Jesus Christ (the savior), and the Holy Spirit (restorer and guide). The difference is Christianity believes that God is all three of these persons in one, whereas Hinduism associates each persona as a different being entirely. Now the beliefs and practices of Hinduism versus Christianity are what become very contrast. Hindus believe that one can realize Brahma through meditation, reflection, concentration, etc. Hindus teach that there is no judgment of right and wrong or good and evil instead that the error of man lies in his thinking. Christians teach that sin lives in us all and the only way to freedom from it is through belief in Jesus Christ and redemption from our sins through him. Another major contrasting belief between Hinduism and Christianity is that of reincarnation. Hindus believe in life after death and depending on how you lived your life your soul returns to life in another form after you die. It relies on the belief of karma and the Law of Karma which determines the future existence of each individual. Christians do not believe in life after death in the same sense, rather, that once a person dies they leave this earth and their soul either rests in eternity with God or without God.

This determination does not rest of the good or bad a person may have done in their life like the Hindu belief, however, it rests only in whether or not the individual accepted Jesus and believed in him. Christians believe in the grace and mercy of God, that we will never be perfect but God saves us from our imperfections. The Hindu belief system is a never-ending cycle of trying to attain perfection in which form you are reincarnated to be. There is no grace, no rest, and no hope.
