Stopping Child Sexual Abuse

Hello everyone, I am so glad that you could come and listen to my speech. My topic of discussion today is about why we must prevent or stop child sexual abuse. Primarily, when a grown-up person or even a mature teenager uses children to stimulate themselves sexually, it is child abuse (Lalor & McElvaney, 2010). Please be careful and listen to this finding of categories of child abuse. And child sexual abuse happens when adults engage children in sexual activities, mostly by pressuring or asking. Ideally, child sexual abuse takes place in various settings, including workplaces, at school, and home. You need to be aware that also at workplaces, child exploitation through labor is common. While during my research on child sexual abuse, I noted that children’s marriages are the primary forms of sexual abuse. According to UNICEF, child marriage is the most common category where girls are exploited, and this turns out to be child sexual abuse.

Having provided a background for child sexual abuse, it’s now time to look at the impacts and the implication of child sexual abuse. These effects include post-traumatic stress disorder, physical injury, the possibility of further damage, and depression (Pipe et al., 2013). When a family member abuses a child sexually, this act is a category of incest and leads to more severe and psychological problem, especially if the abuse is done by a parent (Stoltenborgh et al., 2011). By the way, before moving forward, we need to consider some statistics concerning the prevalence of childhood sexual abuse in the world today. Noticeably, the global rate of childhood sexual abuse in males is 7.9 %, while in females, it is 19.7 % (Child Sexual Abuse, 2019). You should note that most offenders of sexual abuse are acquaintances of the victims. To this end, about 30 % of the offenders have blood relations with the child, and most often cousins, brothers, fathers, and uncles. Around 60 % of the offenders are either neighbors, house helps, or family friends. The remaining 10 % of the offenders are strangers (Child Sexual Abuse Report, 2019). Men lead in the reported sexual offenses involving children. While preparing this presentation, I found out that women cause more child abuse to boys than girls, while men cause more child sexual abuse to girls than to boys.

Moving forward, it’s now time to focus on why we must stop child abuse. Ideally, child abuse causes psychological effects to affected children who are the victims. Therefore, to end these adverse psychological effects on children, then we must stop child sexual abuse. By preventing child from sexual abuse, we will do away with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, low self-esteem, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and somatization. These problems bother children when they have become victims of sexual abuse. Again, childhood, sexual abuse leads to withdrawal from social activities and school. Therefore, we must stop childhood sexual abuse to prevent affected children from dropping out of schools and increase their interest and participation in social activities. You should also note that by stopping or preventing children sexual abuse, we will help children who could be affected by sexual abuse from oppositional defiant disease (ODD), conduct disorder, and hyperactivity disorder. Moreover, as a result of child sexual abuse, there is the problem of adolescent pregnancy. Ideally, teenage pregnancy is one of the external stressors that cause teenagers to engage in risky behaviors such as committing suicide. Therefore, we need to stop sexual abuse against children so that we can overcome suicidal ideation that results from adolescent pregnancy, and that causes the affected children to contemplate committing suicide.

Away from that, you need to know that you and the other members of society have an obligation to help young ones to thrive. Towards that end, we need to prevent and stop childhood sexual abuse since this act of malice is associated with often detrimental, devastating, and long-lasting repercussions. For this reason, we need to prevent and to stop childhood sexual abuse so that we can ensure that children access a positive future since it’s their right. Furthermore, stopping childhood sexual abuse, we will ensure that children develop, grow, and learn in a conducive environment that is safe since it is free from threats associated with childhood sexual abuse. Another thing that you need to note that it is critical to report 0 the cases of childhood sexual abuse to the authorities so that victims can get access to the right treatment and be afforded the correct justice that they deserve. Considerably, childhood experiences play a significant role in shaping peoples’ lives and well-being as long as one is alive. Children’s sexual abuse leaves scars that last throughout people’s lives, and it is now time to stop it so that people can live happily without any adverse memories that occurred during their childhood.

My focus in this presentation is raising awareness that child sexual abuse is unacceptable and that it is the responsibility of all of you and other members of the society not here with us today to prevent and to stop child sexual abuse. To overcome this problem of child sexual abuse, we need to educate the masses and more, so policymakers about child sexual abuse, its nature, and the approaches to use to overcome this problem. Typically, you need to note that every adult has a responsibility to prevent and to stop child sexual abuse. As a recommendation to overcoming childhood sexual abuse, I propose that there is a need to establish strengthened prevention programs to end childhood sexual abuse. Again, there is a need to offer mental health services such as psychosocial support to the victims of childhood sexual abuse.

In the end my presentation, I want to recap, and I hope you noted that the focus and the theme of this speech is stopping child sexual abuse. To this end, we need to prevent sexual abuse and, therefore, we will end teenage pregnancy, psychological effects such as depression and anxiety, withdrawal from schools, emotional and behavioral outcomes, homelessness, and low self-esteem. These problems bother children who have been victims of sexual abuse. Another issue we will stop by preventing child sexual abuse is an addiction to drugs and substances, especially among their childhood who have been victims of child sexual abuse.
