Today, I will be writing a research paper over what I believe is the greatest generation. In my opinion, I believe this generation was the 1960s for many different reasons including a number of significant people. I will start this paper off by stating the important people that I will be talking about and what important things they have done to make them some of the most well known people.

The first person I will talk about in this research paper is Martin Luther King Jr. King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. (History.com) He was an African American that grew up to eventually become one of the most well known people in the world.

Throughout his life, Martin Luther King had to overcome many difficult things. One of the first things he had to overcome in his life was that he would have to live with segregation. King was very angry and hated segregation with a passion. Another thing he had to overcome was getting put in jail multiple times for believing in what he did. This was caused by him talking about things he shouldn’t talk about in public. The final thing he had to overcome is when “King led an unsuccessful struggle against segregation in Georgia in 1962.” (gritfire.com) This was a heartbreaker for King and it was a big obstacle in his life which he eventually overcame.

Now, I will talk about some of his many accomplishments. One of his most well known accomplishments was when he led the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This was caused when a black woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white person and then was forced to sit in the back of the bus. She than eventually got arrested because of this. King then led a revolt with Rosa to help fight against it and it eventually got made illegal to have segregation on buses. Another well known accomplishment that he had was his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. This speech helped the civil rights movement tremendously and eventually resulted in segregation being illegal.

In reflection, Martin Luther King Jr. King was always the person that would do whatever he puts his mind to. This became true through his actions when he said he was gonna end segregation.

The second person I will talk about is John F. Kennedy. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. (jfklibrary.org) Kennedy was well known throughout the 1960s as he was sworn into presidency in 1961 as the 35th president.

John F. Kennedy had many hard obstacles in his life that made him the person he was in the end. One of his many obstacles was when he was in the Navy during WWII. (monster.com) He was driving a ship and he collided with a different ship. Being the man he was he saved a man’s life who was injured severely during the crash. Another obstacles that he had to overcome is when The Cuban Missile Crisis was happening. Kennedy’s life was in jeopardy during this whole event.

Now, I will talk about all the accomplishments that Mr. Kennedy had in his life. The first and most memorable accomplishment that we know he had was becoming the 35th president of the United States. This was always his dream growing up and he put his mind to it and accomplished it. He was also the youngest ever elected president of the United States. (learnodo-newtonic.com) Another very important thing he accomplished is when he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps medal for heroism during World War II.

Sadly, John F. Kennedy died of a gunshot wound on November 22, 1963. This was a terrible day for everyone in the United States but no one will ever forget the great man and president he was.

The final person I will talk about is Neil Armstrong. Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930 in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Armstrong was mainly known for being the first person to ever step foot on the moon.

Neil Armstrong also had many obstacles in his life that changed him. The first scenario that Armstrong had to overcome was when his daughter Karen died on her third birthday because of a brain tumor. (http://neilarmstrongwelch.weebly.com) This was a tragic day for their family and they will never forget about it and how it made their family stronger. The second case is when a huge launch happened and “the rocket lost contact with Earth and started spinning.” This caused hectic and everyone started panicking in fear. The final challenge that he had was that he grew up with a heart disease. This disease really slowed down his life and made him work much harder. All these things made Armstrong grow stronger from it and he used grit to overcome these challenges.

With all these obstacles, he also had a handful of accomplishments. The most well known accomplishment he had was being the first person to ever walk on the moon. This was a huge step for mankind to know what the moon was like and so they can learn new things about it. While on the moon he also put the United States flag in it.
