Types Of Justice: Communicative, Distributive, Legal And Social

There are 4 types of justice:

• commutative
• distributive
• legal
• social

Commutative:

It is owed between individuals and it is for fundamental fairness in all agreements and exchanges between individuals or private social groups. The rules of it are very precise and accurate. They cover the situations where one individual is against another. An example of that is when someone steals from you. The crime is theft and the person is the violator and you are the victim since you are the person who lost something. The next type of justice is different as it involves the fulfilment of positive liberties.

Distributive:

It is fairness in the way things are distributed, focusing more so on who gets what instead of what is distributed. It’s the idea that equal work should provide individuals with an equal outcome of goods. For example, its when workers work extra hours or when some workers work more hours then the others but end up getting the same pay as those who worked less hours. It is a really important principle in society as it encourages fairness.

Legal:

It is the restoration of fairness in the eyes of the law. We apply this into a lot of things such as to people actions, public policies and laws. intended to be a common set of rules viewed as an objective measure of morality. Wrong actions are illegal and punished by the degree of injustice and the amount of time varies with hoe severe the crime was. For example, obviously a person who commits murder will face much more longer in prison than a person who stole from a shop.

Social:

It is the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society. Everyone deserves equal opportunities and rights and to be treated without prejudice. One example of it is when institutions change their ways because of the person’s race, religion, age, gender and sexuality. An example of that is when police officers arrest a person without him resisting or trying to get away just because his colour is black. Sadly, that still happens often and more often than not they are shot dead by the police officer. That is social injustice.

An example of how commutative and distributive justice is different is that If someone dies of a treatable disease, that is a violation of distributive justice. However, no individual is directly responsible for the violation, and no rules need be violated.

An example of how legal and social justice differ is that social justice applies to the pattern of distribution achieved by the employment of any procedures whatsoever, while legal justice refers to the procedures themselves

From my research, I can definitely confidently say that no justice is more important than the other. They are all equally important and needed to be for society to be fair. However, I can say that all 4 types of justice aren’t practised the same. In my opinion, society needs to increase the rate of social justice as there is far more a lot discrimination between people simply because of their race or religion etc. often, people are rejected from jobs because of reasons as such and its plain wrong. The most practised one in my opinion is commutative justice as it is straightforward and these stuff are taken very seriously. Distributive justice is known of amongst people, but sometimes the workers can’t speak up in fear that they would be fired. In low income countries there are sadly a lot of these cases and the country doesn’t have enough power to control these as sometimes big clothes company are situated in LIC where they even hire children and then end up not getting paid enough. But, there aren’t a lot of job opportunities so they stay quiet. Legal justice is easy to understand, if it isn’t allowed within the law its wrong and you will be held accountable for it and punished if you are caught. Its as simple as that.
