Introduction

Today, computer information systems are progressing and developing every day, more and more introduced into everyday human life. Step in step with the development of this vast information structure is the development of interconnection with her other system – virtual reality. Its systems are also increasingly involved in the process of human life and the whole society.

I have decided to choose this topic because of several reasons. Firstly, it is unique. I mean that VR is the second step to the future after a internet, which is changed our culture of daily life entirely. Secondly, VR has an enormous potential in each aspect of human life, especially travelling, medicine, relaxing and improving quality of life. Thirdly, film-like First Player be ready, anime Sword Art Online after watching make me think about it everyday.

Context

Virtual reality is a world that does not exist in reality, created with the help of technical means artificially. With the help of systems and tools of virtual reality, a person, plunging into it, can perform the same actions as in real life, interact with the surrounding world. Simply put, VR is a simulated reality, which creates the illusion of the user’s presence in the artificial world, his interaction with objects and objects of this world with the help of sense organs — ears (hearing), eyes (vision), skin (touch), it is also called artificial, electronic, computer reality and is often confused with augmented reality. But augmented reality only complements the real world, introducing elements of artificial, while the world of virtual reality-completely artificially created.

The term ‘artificial reality’ first appeared in the late 1960-ies. One of the first created virtual realities — invented in 1977, ‘aspen film’. In this virtual reality, you could walk around the city of Aspen, choose different ways to display objects, including in this virtual reality was a winter and summer urban landscape. A more well-known and widespread concept of ‘virtual reality’ was introduced by Yaron Lanier in 1989.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality)

Initially, virtual reality technologies were used only for military purposes-to train soldiers, simulate battles, but recently successfully used in various fields. For example, virtual 3D-reality in production allows you to teach such professions, where the use of real mechanisms and devices is risky for life or very costly (for example, in machine and aircraft construction, train driving).

In the architecture of VR (virtual reality) is applied to recreate the future of buildings and their elements, the modeling of the interior.

In medicine, VR helps to train the skills of surgeons, also with the help of virtual reality devices real operations are performed. (http://tofar.ru/article/virtualnaya-realnost.htm)

The possibility of VR in the field of games, entertainment and learning are limited only by the imagination. The most common are all kinds of virtual reality attractions, virtual reality for PC: 3D games and simulators (for example, air and car simulators, real life simulators).

Despite the already impressive achievements in the field of virtual reality modeling, it is too early to talk about the full reproduction of the real world: full 3D virtual reality is not yet possible. Even the most modern VR devices, providing the transmission of sounds and images, actions and tactile sensations, can not yet provide the full effect of immersion in VR, which would completely repeat the reality. But progress does not stand still, every year there are new technologies and improved devices for VR, including a virtual reality for the smartphone, and who knows, perhaps very soon there will be a virtual world, indistinguishable from the real.

Virtual reality helmets in science allow us to simulate different conditions for experiments. This applies to chemistry, physics and other exact Sciences. Although the equipment to create a professional virtual reality costs a lot of money, it quickly pays off, as samples and errors in the implementation of expensive projects can cost much more.( https://www.livescience.com/53392-virtual-reality-tech-uses-beyond-gaming.html)

Aims

The main aims for this project are as follows:

  • To use range of data resources (social media, article, survey) to find out what is the main purposes of creating virtual reality.
  • To identify pros and cons of virtual reality, will it help in evolving of humanity or make them lazy and more moron.
  • To find out opinion of others (especially teachers, scientist and also NIS students). What are they thinking about virtual reality? They want it impatiently or fear it?
  • By making survey find out the answer for the main question ( Is virtual reality key for achieving human dreams or is it the end for our development?
  • To make a project which will be helpful to understand the concept of virtual reality in general. Also give clear, understandable information about virtual reality ( their potential, future uses, place in our daily life like job, work, study, pros and cons.

Method

The type of research that I am going to use in this project is descriptive and intervention research.

The using several types of resources makes this project more interesting, reliable, informative because each type related in only one specific thing. Also these methods complement each other by filling their cons.

Most of the information was taken from internet, websites like Wikipedia, quora and BBC. The gain data was about virtual reality what is it in general , where it needs, uses.

The descriptive researches goal was gather an in depth and accurate understanding of my projects topic(virtual reality). Due to lack of information I had to use this method to make a badass project. To obtain all of the information to write this project I read about 40-50 articles.

Most of them was the same but each one has an needed data. The most breathtaking, unforgettable article was about the company which was engaged in real estate. All of the employers worked in virtual reality( they make their company in virtual way) . They do not need to go to work, just stay in their home with computer. Interviews with clients also takes place there for this all conditions are created.

The second type of research intervention was used to gain others opinion about my topic. It was done by creating survey in website “surveymonkey.com”. It contained 4 types of questions like dichotomous, open, likert scaling and filter. For instance, open question ( In which aspect of life virtual reality will affect most?) dichotomous( Are you interested in VR?). The goal of this survey is find out what society thinks about VR, are our opinions similar. Also people of all ages will participate in this survey.

Finally, by analyzing all of this gained data I will write my project work.

Result

30 people were involved in this survey, where 25(83%) school and university students, 3% teachers, 13% middle schoolboy (7-9 grade). Most of the answers from students, because my topic was related to VR, which is about future technology and this 83%(13-20) aged people was most aware about virtual reality, that is why in my survey a lots of teenagers. (Appendix A)

The first open question was “What do you associate with word virtual reality”. It was asked to find out do they know, what they imagine first about VR. The common answers was “video games, computer and technology” and the best answer was “World where all dreams can realized”. (Appendix B) The second and third filter questions related to each other. Second question is “Have you ever used VR opportunity?” Almost 57% of respondents Choose the answer “Yes and I love it”, 37% had chosen second variant No, I am not fan of this things 6% had answered “I used, but sometimes I feel some kind of violence for example in video games”. (Appendix C)

Third one “How often do you use VR opportunity?” The 16% of respondents chosen answer is once a week, 32 % once a year, 20% never. Thereby we can understood that most of the students cannot afford Virtual reality opportunity, because of its expensive cost. (Appendix D)

Fourth and fifth questions also complement each other. First is Likert scaling question “Virtual reality is the key to achieving human dreams (agree, disagree, neutral)”. Other is explaining his or her point of view. The 63% of respondents agreed, 30% in neutral side and only 3% are disagree. (Appendix E) Agreed students explaining “Yes, of course. It has a great potential in future, with the help of VR people can stimulate themselves as another person and also it will be helpful for disabled persons. Opinion of the student in neutral side “Virtual reality is both incredible and dangerous technology. If virtual reality will become so developed that will be hardly to distinct whether it is real or not then it is going to be good device to do some practice of real situations, it is good for people who save lives, but if to use it as dreams creator. I think it is big risk that it will cause psychological disorders.” It shows they believe that VR can achieve our dreams, dreams that are impossible or too hard to reach in real world. (Appendix F)

Following ordinal question VR most used in… In military 17%, games 93%, medicine 27%, transport driving 17%. These shows that most of the respondents unaware about potential of VR in medicine and in the field of transports. (Appendix G)

Next ordinal question is “What would you like to be doing in virtual reality?” From most popular chosen answers to less were “Gaming 45%, Art/design 28%, Entertainment 17% and Professional work 7%. (Appendix H)

Penultimate open question “What kind of emotions did you feel when you first time used VR?” The most common answers “Shock, happiness, excitement “. These questions role was to identify effect of VR either it dreadful or brings pleasure. (Appendix I)

The last ordinal question is “What does virtual reality gives us?” Most selected answers “new level of gaming76%, Surgery (training to perfect their techniques on things other than real humans)62%, Space exploration(The potential to fly round in space using a Google Maps-style interface would be interesting) 62%. These answers were given to show the enormous potential of VR and its usage in other areas. (Appendix J)

Conclusion

To sum up, I would like to say that I had achieved my goals of this project. In the beginning, I was thinking that VR is very popular nowadays, but according to primary researches (Appendix C, D) almost half of my respondents (which is students 90%) didn’t experienced VR opportunity due to its expensive cost. So, it shows that VR has an enormous potential to change our world like it did internet.

Besides, both primary (Appendix G, J) and secondary researches showed that VR opportunity is not being used only in games, it also had been using in other areas. For instances, surgery ( VR enables trainee surgeons to gain valuable experience but in a safe environment. They learn skills and techniques without causing harm to patients and receive constant feedback, military (The U.S. military often uses virtual-reality simulators to train soldiers before they are deployed. Noncommercial versions of games like Virtual Battlespace 2 and Unity 3D are used to prepare troops for combat)

Also my main aim in this project work was: To find out the answer for the question “Is virtual reality key for achieving human dreams?” My answer is it can, because in virtual reality world everything is possible. Even flying, becoming whoever or whatever you want, seeing places better, more beautiful than in real world. For instance, new fantasy 2018 film “Player one be ready” and anime “Sword art online” is the greatest example of VR potential and usage. In my primary research(Appendix E, F) and secondary research most of the people agreed with me and saying that it would be possible after couple of years.

By this project I would like to acquaint my readers with term virtual reality, provide them useful and necessary information and show them that future is almost here. I believe that I could bring it to my readers!
