Cyberattacks are a danger to organizations and consumers, such as cyber identity theft. Identity theft is when someone takes personal information to commit fraud. Identity theft affects one in twenty-five adults each year. They affect and destroy businesses and damage people’s financial and personal lives. According to Jared Cohen an American businessman, “We live in a world where all wars will begin as cyberwar.” This means without people who work in cyber security, people will not be able to protect themselves from these attacks.

The reason for cybersecurity is to help prevent cyberattacks, data breaches, and identity theft and can help in risk management. People need something out there to keep society’s technology safe and secure from bad things or people that willing to do us harm. According to Margaret Rouse someone who manages WhatIs.com, TechTarget’s IT encyclopedia and learning center., “Cyber hygiene, a surgeon would never enter an operating room without washing their hands first.” This means that people should be using safe and private software to protect themselves from getting viruses, like how a surgeon cleans themselves to protect the patient.

Cybersecurity is important and without it, there can be serious chaos. Cybersecurity is important because then risks in society now that we have more technology and devices. Cybersecurity protects from phishing, Internet of Things (IoT), and Ransomware. Cyber security helps protect internet-connected systems, including hardware, software, or data, from cyberattacks.

Some people believe cybersecurity is not important. Not everyone needs to know about cyber, and people can live without it. Some people live without any technology. According to Daniel H. Wilson, “Change creates fear, and technology creates change. Sadly, most people don’t behave very well when they are afraid.” Some people don’t need technology for their daily lives.

Although some people think cyber is not needed, cyber is needed to help people who do have the technology and need it protected. Cybersecurity is needed because it helps protect your information from cyber attacks, data breaches, and identity theft helps prevent malware and viruses and allows programs to run smoothly and quickly. Cyber is needed to protect our technology from unwanted, and harmful things getting into our technology. Because most people have technology getting viruses or getting hacked isn’t really a shock, so we have people who are ready to fix the problem. According to Kevin Mitnick, “New security loopholes are constantly popping up because of wireless networking.” These things happen every day, so people who work in cyber can help with these problems. This is why cybersecurity is important.
