The life of Ted Bundy was exclusively normal but blood curdling evil. His legacy is centered around a plenitude of cruel, heinous, and abominable acts. Born on November 24, 1946 to Eleanor Louise Cowell, Theadore Robert Cowell’s, (later known as Ted Bundy) life soon became a series of misfortunate events.

Growing up with a single mom somewhat sparked his socially awkward personality. From an early age, Ted showed signs of awkwardness and little morality. The root of his crude behavior may focalize around the fact that he grew up thinking his mother was actually his sister. There is evidence though that he might have actually looked past this lie with a direct quote from his early life that stated “’Maybe I just figured out that there couldn’t be twenty years’ difference in age between a brother and a sister, and Louise always took care of me. I just grew up knowing that she was really my mother.’ (Kettler).

This American serial killer kidnapped, raped, and murdered various young women and young girls during the 1970s and possibly even earlier. Known as being a handsome, witty, and charismatic man, he would later use these traits to conquer his victims and win over their trust. His first attack was not actually a murder, instead it was an aggravated assault of a young girl in Utah. After this incident, Bundy was jailed and finally became a suspect to an exponentially long list of unsolved homicides in many states. Women across various states like Washington and Oregon began disappearing at an alarming rate. In the span of just six months, six women had been abducted and the area rose in a panic over who could have possibly committed these crimes. His nonchalant and charming mannerisms, gave little way to the possibility of anyone discovering it was him. It was not until “Janice Ann Ott ,and Denise Marie Naslund disappeared in broad daylight from a crowded beach at Lake Sammamish State Park.” (Paoletti) that the community became fired up and started pointing fingers. Trying to seduce women in his brown Volkswagen Beetle, Ted portrayed himself as a weakling in order to sexually entice any woman that he deemed worthy of assault.

The (Allthatinteresting.com) website said it best when the author exclaimed that while “ facing murder charges in Colorado, he engineered two dramatic escapes and committed further assults in Florida, including three murders, before his ultimate capture in 1978. For the Florida homicides, he received three death sentences in two separate trials. Bundy was executed in the electric chair at Florida State prison in Raiford, Florida on January 24, 1989”

The United States quickly became shook and ended his long lived reign of detestable crimes. Over 30 victims were directly affected while thousands of other citizens also suffered the psychological trauma. To this day, there are women who are still suffering the wrath of this man’s awful crimes and sources show the abundant damage he has left behind. This sadistic sociopath used his impulsiveness and glamour to lure his victims and because of this, the notorious criminal lives on as one of the most successful criminals of all time in United States history.

Bundy then became whatever the community wanted him to be and in this way he outsmarted many intelligent people. At the end of his life, he saw himself as not guilty. Also being known for proclaiming creepy and non emotional words, he said” Guilt? It’s this mechanism we use to control people. It’s an illusion. It’s a kind of social control mechanism — and it’s very unhealthy. It does terrible things to our bodies. And there are much better ways to control our behavior than that rather extraordinary use of guilt” (DailyMoss) to show that in his eyes, he was indeed not at fault.

To sum up, Theodore Robert cowell’s life was not an iconic landmark in the history of this country’s well being, but in fact it was a trial that was overcome by many innocent and brave citizens. Movies have been made to honor these victims and it is important to pay tribute to these events and learn from them in order to never allow them to occur in today’s society.
