Computer Science is an exponentially growing field that has an abundance of job possibilities. Through the digital age constantly evolving, Computer Science is a prominent influence on society. Through observing the technological advancement in the past few years and seeing how computers have ultimately diversified the world, I am keen to be involved with the further innovation of future technology.

My enthusiasm for computers first began at early GCSE stage; the problem-solving side and the fact it is such a theoretical yet practical subject especially interests me. Computers come hand in hand with problem-solving and have boundless possibilities both in terms of their application and development.

This course offers stimulating challenges and the opportunity for leadership and accomplishment. Additionally, problem-solving is a skill which I have applied to my everyday studies naturally. My most recent use of problem-solving is during a relational databases exam which incurred solving a scenario based on a skating competition and creating a relational database based upon that. I successfully accomplished this and received a Distinction grade. Having also worked innovatively in the field of I.T. when specifically creating work based around the use of technology and social media in business; I researched this and then implemented it into a company. I helped my chosen business increase their field of customers through this implementation.

Having an inherent inquisitiveness for Computer Science, I enjoy reading around the subject: the articles on the Computer World website give me an extra insight to the computing world. They focus on the foundations of Computer Science and computer security. These entice me the most because of the complete variation you can get from article to article. The operating system reports are of particular interest because they give me an insight to the real businesses in the computing world.

The scope of my current course allows me to take the basic concepts of a range of topics, to then expand on them. Computer Science entails so many branches, inclusive of artificial intelligence and algorithms. Algorithms provide a powerful toolbox in order to solve problems and this interests me because of the endless possibilities they provide. I regularly partake in online courses, inclusive of HTML and Python programming. These two subfields interest me because of the control I have over them. I also demonstrate skills through my study of English Literature at A-Level: English involves the close analysis of texts, standing back to interpret, logically structuring arguments and independent study. These skills come in useful when analysing the software within the computer and interpreting commands.

During my spare time, I enjoy to ski and regularly long-distance run. I also have two part-time jobs. One being based within the high street retail sector and my other being a receptionist. I enjoy the balance of these along with my studies, they have given me the opportunity to develop new skills such as time management and working effectively as a team or an individual which are a necessity in daily life.

Technology in today’s society is at the forefront of everything, whether this is businesses or individuals, it is a prominent part of general everyday life. I fully know that I have only just started my journey with Computer Science and can’t wait to develop my expertise and knowledge to face the various challenges at University. I would love the opportunity to study my passion in an even greater depth.
