Artificial intelligence has improved healthcare over time with medicines and being able to look deeper into the body where the human mind would not be able to do so (Kennedy, n.d.). Some people have the incorrect impression or understanding of artificial intelligence, they see these systems as them taking over human work and seen as robots (Kennedy, n.d.). This is not the case these are used to help treat a patient more than what they could have, because the computer evaluates and see more than the human eye (Kennedy, n.d.). Artificial intelligence in health care is about having access to life-saving information (Kennedy, n.d.). These systems can help with treatment, speed of care, meet geographical needs and much more (Kennedy, n.d.). Artificial intelligence can help the doctor with the best treatment possible for the patient’s care (Kennedy, n.d.).

Artificial intelligence has several categories such as expert systems, neural networks, genetic algorithms, intelligent agents and virtual reality (Baltzan, 2019). Expert systems are one that is used in the medical field to assist with medical diagnosis (Baltzan, 2019). Expert systems can also be used to do “handwriting recognition, signature identification and currency inspection” (Baltzan, 2019, p. 67). Then the vision machine sensitivity provides the option to “detect weak impulses at invisible wavelengths” (Baltzan, 2019, p. 67). These are the things that a human could not detect on their own.

Neural networks are something a finance firm would use in order to see if someone is creditworthy and much more (Baltzan, 2019). Neural networks can take in large amounts of information and are able to see patterns behaviors when someone puts in an application if the firm is using this system (Baltzan, 2019). This system is also used to get a historical pattern on stock markets, it can be used to detect fraud use of a credit card and to understand deep learning (Baltzan, 2019). Let’s look at genetic algorithms, which work best with problem-solving when there are multiple variables or outcomes (Baltzan, 2019). Healthcare purposes would be mutations because there could be many reasons for mutations (Baltzan, 2019). This is also used in telecommunications because it can determine the correct cable needed or the best outcome to optimize the services that are being provided to their customers (Baltzan, 2019).

One individual system that is being used today around the globe is telehealth. Telehealth is s system that allows doctors to treat their patients from sitting on their couch and never stepping into the health facility. The doctor does not have to be at the medical facility to see the patient either they can treat them over telecommunications with video. We currently use this service at my work for us to be able to treat patients from the geographical area they live in, so they are not having to drive a long distance to see us. I have also seen this used for behavioral health, when someone goes into the emergency room and has tried to harm themselves or others, they use telehealth to see that patient when there is not a doctor for behavioral health on staff. It makes it to where a patient can be treated when and where they want to be treated without transport. I am a patient of telehealth for minor things when I am unable to see my primary doctor. One of the reasons is being a full-time student, employee and having a family to keep up with so these things are important to have in health care, so the individual that has no time to visit the doctor can maintain their health.
